Billet E-Body Trunk Hinges
« on: March 21, 2013 - 12:25:44 PM »
Hello everyone,

Here they are prototyped and ready to be fitted on the car.  The only thing required for install is a hole drilled for a 5/16 bolt (you can see the socket head bolt in the picture mid-way between the hinge and out-rigger that holds the back of the gas spring.

It seems like the cuda and challenger have different support braces that were welded into the car.  I designed these based on the challenger brace.  I noticed on John's Cuda Shop that the brace looks different.  The hole needed is about 6" from the pin that the hinge pivots on.  Can anyone tell me if there is a flat on the bulge on the back of the flange about 6" from them pin on the cuda?  It looks like it.

Thanks for your help,
Ted

I sure hope they fit on a cuda.

They look sweet!

Can't wait to know what the pricing will be.

Yeah, it says Australia and then ships from Canada.  Thank you very much!!!!   :)  I've looked around and all the replacements are Challengers but you can weld into both cars? (confused)

I sure hope they fit on a cuda.

Oh, they will fit  ;) , just have to figure out what we need to do.  Pricing will be available as soon as we put them on a car and know they work.

Are these hinges going to work for a vert? I think the brace for verts are not as wide as a hardtop. Looks like the outrigger portion could interfere with the top well.

That is a good question.  We will be testing on a convertible and make sure either it works or there will be a separate version for convertibles.

Thanks,

Test fitting went great and they are released for sale.  The price is $445 and that includes all the pieces, mounting hardware, and both gas springs.  They are available on our website:  www.thebillethouse.com

Brushed, and Black Anodized are an additional $85.00 and polished is an additional $100.00

We will have a 2 week pre-order period and then start making and shipping them out.

Unfortunately, we haven't figured out how to make them work with convertibles. YET!

Thank you everyone for your help and support.  I could not have done any of this with out you guys.  We are working on a number other billet e-body components and will update you on those soon.

Here is the preliminary design for the convertible.
I will be prototyping the design in a few days and then testing it.  It will run an additional $100 due to the additional parts involved.  3 bearings and 2 billet pieces.
There is just not enough space in the back of the 'vert.

The finished design will be visual appealing.  :)  And the tension rods do go away entirely.
