Can anyone tell me if the challenger and the cuda dashes are the same?

Drew,
From doing a quick search, the cuda and challenger dash pads are different. The cuda has a flat area just behind the front lip over the gauge area. The challenger is more curved which would explain why the installed was trying to force the front lip down leaving a spongy gap under the cap just a little behind it.
I think you have a 1970 cuda dash pad.

Attached shows a difference between the two. Focus on the area over the gauge assembly. The Cuda has a flatter area where as the Challenger has a more curved area in the same spot.

I agree and would explain why the installer could rock the dash cap back and forth in the first video.

Drew, I don't think they are correct on that.
With the curved design on the chally dash, I just can't see a barracuda dash sitting on there.
I would call them and explain that there is a difference.

At Jims, they are two different part numbers which tells me there is a difference.

Plus, looking at your original dash, the Challenger has the small bead or belt running on the top where as the Barracuda does not.

The more I look at the two, the more difference I see.

OK..........I watched the videos.......there is a lot wrong with that cap. It does appear that the cap is too short  to reach the vin plate.  As he ends the front over it raises the back side and still won't reach the vent areas......My cap has a more defined ridge where the original stitching in on a real pad.  I had no issues  to speak of except to trim around one of the air vents.  Mine came from Year One but that was back in 07 or so.  Wish I could be of more help but I think the cap is all wrong.

I think this shows the defined ridge better................

Thanks Dave. I called Year One last night and they said that cap fits both and that they are the only producer of dash caps...  :screwy:  They gave me a return number for UPS to come pick it up. Im debating on waiting to get a pad next tax season or trying to get another cap and giving it a couple years before I do a pad....
