Rear Valance area on '71 Challenger
« on: March 23, 2013 - 09:50:51 AM »
Hello All,
This morning at the crack of dawn I head out to the garage to install the rear valance for his '71 Challenger R/T. I understand and got the 6 fasteners along the side installed along with the two attach screws that holds the center of the valance on. But, I'm left with these screws that came in the "rear valance kit". Is there a support plate/bracket that's missing or something? The Challenger was taken out of a shop when it was getting painted rather quickly (long story). So I have it here at the house to put it back together for him.

2. Rear valance installed. I see two holes on the outboard side of the valance and then 4 holes/nutplates in the frame crossover

Found this on AMD's site investigating this problem. Looks like something I need, no? Right now, the only fastener to the valance is the 3 on either side attach points to the lower quarter panel and the two center fasteners to the crossmember.

I think a '70 model was the only year that used braces similar to those.

That's correct...1970 used those brackets.  71-74 just had the one bracket in the center.  The valance to quarter hardware should be studs/nuts...not bolts.

If this is the case, then I'm good to go. The 6 quarter attach points are sheetmetal plates, studs and nuts as mentioned..

Cool, then I'm ready to install the bumper......  :bananasmi
