To my knowledge it is very easy to import as the car is returning home to where it was built so there should be not taxes / duty to pay . Canada doesn't issue a title though just a registration which should be signed by the seller . you may have to jump through some hoops to get a title & inspection done .

I just imported the '74 'cuda from Canada.  As long as the car is older than 25 years old, it's a breeze since its exempt from EPA and DOT regs.  If you had a non-American or Canadian built car, there would be more hoops to jump through.

The best thing to do is to take it across the border yourself.  That way, CBP just fills out a Form 7501.  It took about 5 minutes and there was no charge.  Make sure you have a Bill of Sale.  I also bought a 5-day Canadian permit/registration for 38 CAD, though not sure that it was required.

I'm sure each State has its requirements.  The Texas stuff was listed out on the DMV website and was pretty straight forward, but have patience since these people don't import cars everyday.

I understand that going the other way (US to Canada) is more difficult.

Good Luck!

Nah - USA to Canada is no issue at all either as long as you send the required documents to Customs prior to entry. Brought mine up from Oregon and the only hassle was convincing customs to take cash for the taxes.

I just imported my T/A from Japan and I can honestly say it wasn't that bad.  Japan doesn't issue titles either, at least not one that a foreigner could get put in their name.  All I needed to register and title it here in MO was the completed entry summary from Customs.  No duty since it was originally from the US, and no sales tax as it was purchased out of the country....  I did use a customs broker to do all of the filing and exams on my behalf, but it was coming out of a container so that may be a little different.

I went the other way, but the only issue is getting the purchase papers to the border 72 hrs ahead of time and a letter that stated all recalls had been addressed. US import rules may be different, but may save you some headaches if you check ahead of time.

Depending on the car, it may have been built in Canada.

Your speedometer will be in kilometers per hour. Small numbers in miles per hour.  :2cents: Odometer in kilometers. 60,000 miles = 100,000 kilometres.
