    If this is the one you are talking about, it looks like the same one that Herb's sales.

    "4 x 10" Oval Universal Frame - Used in many Ford and Chrysler products as a front dash speaker. This speaker uses a larger magnet structure, bigger diameter spider than our "Slim Line" and "Special Rectangle" speaker and has a cloth rolled suspension for improved bass response and better power handling capability. The extra ears on the end allow for mounting in Ford and Chrysler products that used the 2 hole mounting pattern. They can easily be cut off with a tin snips if needed for 4 bolt mounting clearance. Fabric dust cover installed on all speakers.

    I don't remeber if it looked like that magnet, or was a reconditioned original.  I do know that i have two brand new 4x10's with the large magnets still sitting in their box, cause the place i bought them from said "Sorry, no returns"   :stomp:

    Just need to double check:

    Were the factory AM/FM radios in Cuda's & Challengers 8 ohms?

    Or were they 4 ohm; speakers would be needed?

    Yes, 8-10 Ohms.  You could get a 4 Ohm speaker and put a 4 Ohm resister inline if you wanted.

    Well, I sent Herb's an email and they wrote me back.  They are out of stock and will be getting some in at the end of April.

    Don't know about this source, but I had it bookmarked when I was ready to order a replacement center speaker for my dash. It's inexpensive and may be an option:

    4X10SPEAKER - THIS IS A REPLACEMENT SPEAKER FOR ANY
    1966-78 MOPAR WITH A 4X10 FRONT SPEAKER. NOT A
    REPRODUCTION OF THE ORIGINAL SPEAKER, BUT A HIGH

    BLACK TOP SPEAKER CLOTH COVER AS THE ORIGINALS, AND
    ONCE INSTALLED, IT WILL LOOK EXACTLY LIKE THE ORIGINAL.

    I'll have to check the size of the magnet on my original speaker.  The one you are referencing has a much larger diameter magnet than the one from Herb.  You'd also need to know if it was 4 or 8 ohms if you are using it with an original radio.

    Not this Monday either.  I think that I am officially done buying from Herb's.  Still no speaker.  I do not mind waiting, that is not really the problem.  I have bought from other places on line.  I get an email to let me know they received the order, an email to let me know the order is being processed, and then an email to let me know it has shipped and has tracking included.  In today's electronic age, this should be a minimum in customer support.  It is not like Herb's has anything that can't be found somewhere else.

    It really is funny.  The problem is that I am relocating my family and I to Dallas for work.  I am moving into an apartment complex for now.  My house is up for sale and the 'cuda is going to be staying at a friends house in Oklahoma until I can find a house in Dallas to buy.  That could be months from now.  I start work in Dallas the first week in June.  This will make visiting my car difficult, let alone being able to work on it a little.

    So funny, sure.  It's getting that way.  Frustrated as hell, you bet I am.

    That would be ideal if you where using a modern radio.  It will not work with mine unless I installed a 4 ohm resister in line with the speaker.  Then I would still be unable to use both channels for stereo.

    I got my speaker from Herbs yesterday.  Yes, check the dates on these posts, yesterday!  I haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet.

    What radio are you using?
    From what I was informed, the OEM radio for 70-71' were 8 ohms.
