Welcome to the board KING!!  Well I guess it would depend on the distance you're driving and what kind of gear you have in the rear end!!  Stock in the 1/4 mile for an e-body . . . I think 170 would be pushin it!!    :eekbig:  :eekbig:  :eekbig:   ::)  ::)   :grinyes:   :grinyes:   :grinyes:

The one I had in 70 with 4.10 gears would top out around 140-145 . it had a little more left but not much. But I had a 70 440-6pak with 2.76 gears that would go 160-165 and better. Never took it faster cuz it didnt want to steer at those speeds.....LOL

A fellow countryman of mine who lives in LA build a Daytona clone out from 69 RT Charger. He yanked a prepped 426 Max Wedge engine in with some beefy 4" exhaust cummin out just where it should come out.. front of rear tire in drivers side.
He's goal is to drive 200mph in Salt flats  :grinyes:... crazyyyyyyyyyy

Car and Driver's test of a '70 Hemi-Challenger listed top speed (with 3.23 gears) as 146 mph.

you guys think 170 mph would be to high for a 426 hemi. and the top speed would be around 140-145 mph because that is not very fast a vw touareg i heard can do 135 mph. my 340 aar cuda has barred the needle at 150 mph and i dont think a 340 aar is faster than a 426 hemi car.

Its not a matter of horsepower, its a maatter of gearing and useable rpm. Car & Driver probable just computed the safe max rpm the factory recommends by the gear ratio  to compute their max speed . Almost any car (v-8 of that era)  can run 120 + if you rev them hard enough.Add some aerodynamics to that formula and you have an easy 140mph. And as " death befor toyota " said a vw toureg (and almost any other import) can do 130+ today with just 150+ hp today

Yip, most modern cars can hit 150mph without any problems.

Was a good article somewhere recommending Gearvendors and explaining how you can be quick up to the top speed and beat what ever your racing, BUT!, doing top speed and a Honda Civic passes you doing 3,000rpm is not a good feeling.

The 340, 440 and HEMI engines will have no trouble getting to 150mph but gearing is it's nemisis.  :(

so why was gearing such **** back then. i am not saying they are slow they would compete with a wrx sti at that speed. but i still think they would have a bit more in them then that. 146 mph sound to low.

car and driver rated it at 146 mph because dodge gave them that number . the real top speed would be alot higher. the reason that dodge gave a low number because of high insurance rates they under rated everything horsepower war rated at 425 hp but would be more like 500 hp. the top speed would be higher then 146 mph by alot.

Ive got 3:91 gears fitted with the O.D. tranny and i have gone 130 mph, with lots left but i dont feel safe at that speed. The top speed is close to 150 id bet, or more. Im not going to find out.

i would say in a 426 hemi challenger/cuda could in the right condistions with a long enough straight away and if you had the peddle to the ground after a bit of time you could get to 170 mph but you would have to be pushing it to the max.
