Thanks!  No cool options, other than verifying that the way the car sits now is pretty much the way it left the factory.  I could not tell what 4 codes mean, but some of the ones I could included the tach, HD 4 spd, 3.55 rear end, 383 4bbl, tinted glass, bucket seats, AM radio - that kind of stuff.  The car also has power steering, but manual drum brakes.  I don't have the broadcast sheet, and the previous owner didn't mention it.  The codes I've checked on are just the ones from the data plate.  I was able to confirm that the data plate matches the VIN and sticker on the door.  Do you know of typical broadcast sheet locations?

I was a member in 2008 with a 1973 Barracuda that I unfortunately had to sell.  I've been off of this great site since then (couldn't stand reading about what I couldn't have), but finally was able to purchase another E body.  I'm picking it up from San Rafael tomorrow morning.  Some of you in Northern California might have seen it briefly on Craigslist earlier this week advertised for $5,200. The car is a 1971 Challenger R/T.  It has a pretty straight body, minimal rust, really ugly paint with a peeled-off vinyl roof, decent interior with non-original back seat, good paperwork, fender tag, and has all of the cool original R/T stuff still on it with no modifications, other than the fact that the 383 is not numbers matching and not stock.  It is an original 383 4 speed car, though, with rally dash and the original transmission, shifter, and rear end. 

Nice pics! You picked that puppy up for only $5,200? That looks like a pretty solid car and a great score for that price. I've been out of the hobby for a while and I'm looking to get back in. I'm keeping my eyes open and can only hope that I can find a deal that looks as good as yours apparently does.  :thumbsup:

Those options sound pretty cool to me! I think it's a great ride and it sounds like you got a great deal on it. As far as the broadcast sheet, touch base with the PO again - if he's had the car since the 80's there is a chance he stashed it somewhere and temporarily forgot about it during the sale. I've heard that the broadcast sheet can be found in a lot of different places such as inside a seat between the springs and the foam (most common location), stuffed up under the dash on top of the glove box or heater box and sometimes even under the carpet. As far as the option codes on the data plate, which ones do you need help with? If you throw them up on the board I'm sure you will get a quick response as to what they are.

Taped to the back side / top of the glove box insert.
Under the front bucket seats in the springs
Inside the bucket seat backs

Under the package tray (speaker shelf)
Under the carpet
Please check all these locations and let me know what you find.


It's also possible your broadcast sheet ended up in another car.  Unfortunately if your car is a LA car the clean car policy resulted in most broadcast sheets being removed from cars.

Thanks Guys!  Rzero3 - good luck with your search!  My son would check Craigslist in a 200 mile radius every day.  With this car he texted me the ad at my office, and when I read it I noticed the seller had posted it at 10 p.m. the night before, and stated in the ad to only call on Tuesdays and Thursdays and only between 6 and 8.  It was Tuesday, and so I texted him and said that I wanted to respect his instructions on the ad, but did not want to get beaten out by someone that jumped the gun, so I would be calling him at exactly 6.  He texted back 'thanks', and when I called him he said I was the only one that followed the instructions, so he pulled the ad until Saturday when I could drive the 120 miles to see the car.

BTW, I ran the tag through the Trim Tag Decoder at Stockmopar.com and it answered most of my questions (except for G10).  Also, I can't see a code that difinitively says it's an R/T, even though it is equipped like one.

JamieZ - I'll check all the place possible for that broadcast sheet, but I think I might be out of luck if it was located under the back seat - my car has a 1970 back seat in it, so the original is long gone.  Maybe I'll get lucky with one of the other locations.

The "S" as in JS23... in the VIN denotes it as an RT.

As for the "G10" are you sure it's not a C10? I assume the order in which you presented the fender tag codes is the order (left to right, bottom to top) that they came off the tag and the placement of the "G10" code is where the Scheduled Production Date (SPD or build date) should be. If the code is C10 that would mean your Challenger was built on Dec 10 1970.

BTW, I thought you said it didn't have any "cool options"? From those codes it looks like you got yourself a very nicely equipped Challenger and that is totally cool for what you bought it for!  :thumbsup:

Thanks - and I solved the G10 code mystery.  It turns out I read it wrong at it is C10, which is just the date code of December 10, and corresponds with the sticker on the door that states the car was made in 12 - 1970.

That is a nice buy. I've checked out some other E's in that price range and they're almost always 318 rust-buckets.
