Anyone here use a manual valve body? "sport shifter"
« on: March 30, 2013 - 12:01:58 AM »
I was thinking of getting a 72 scamp with one and was wondering if anyone would like to share their experiences.

i run a cheetah manual reverse valvebody with a b&m quicksilver shifter. the reason i like this shifter is that it will rachet both ways so if i want to change the valvebody to a stock pattern i don't have to change the shifter. it is far from stock though if that matters to you but i have no issues with it at all, you just have to be careful when routing the shifter cable it doesn't like the heat from the headers.

I run a full manual valve body in a truck I have and love it. Only thing I would say is if it is full manual only go reverse manual. With a full manual the standard shift pattern is a big PITA, I have driven some.

I have a reverse manual valve body. I like it because I like to shift, but still retain the benefits of an automatic transmission. If you don't like shifting, then don't get one. The reverse pattern is the way to go if you race or speed shift. The reverse pattern has you shifting away from neutral instead of toward it. This prevents you from accidently shifting into neutral or worse reverse. I once accidentally shifted my Challenger into reverse while speed shifting. It was a slap-stick shifter which shouldn't allow this to happen, but was worn and not properly adjusted. It destroyed my tranny!  :eek4: What I have now suits me well and I like it, but like I said, it requires shifting up/down every time you stop/go and I still have my stock slap-stick shifter. It's all about what you want/like!

Yeah I enjoy shifting so its no big problem. Ill have to look into a reverse manual then, never really knew the difference, but I know know. Thanks for the feedback guys

How are you using the stock shifter with a reverse pattern?  Are you holding the button to shift everytime?

I have a aftermarket plate I put in my stock slap-stick shifter. It is called a "Shift-r-gate" made by Ducan Motor Sports. You can modify the plate yourself with a dremmel motor, but for $30 bucks, I just bought the one made by Ducan. I've posted the URL link below. Hope this helps!

I'm running a Transgo forward shift manual valve body. It works real well. I like it because I was able to retain my factory slap stick.

Nah Im still searching. I have been wanting to call that guy up about it but my father keeps telling me it is a bad idea, he thinks it will cost too much to get it changed to to PS, PB, and A/C. I have talked to him about it but think he is stuck in that mindset.

I think it may actually be sold, says that the owner deleted the ad. I tried emailing him about two times but he never responded :dunno: .

Have your tried Grinner? www.grinerengineering.com That guy is always mentioned in valve body talk and from what I have seen, the best around. Turbo Actio are also good but use their "older tech" where-as Grinner uses parts and tech of today in his parts.

I have a "Prosteet Auto/Man" valve body behind a Hemi and can't wait! I wanted to keep the auto function but still be able to override it and shift myself if needs be. The shifts are instant and very very firm. Good luck choosing! Remember, make sure you get a low band apply (LBA) VB to save yourself from having to remove a sprag from your legs lol

Steve Griner makes awesome valve bodies. He is well known in the racing world and I use a Griner valve body in my transmission. Very reliable and the harder you accelerate, the harder it shifts!  :woo:
