Door hinge rebuild kits?
« on: March 30, 2013 - 06:56:23 PM »
My lower hinges have a little play. I'd rather rebuild them verses buying new ones at $250/set. Is there a kit out there? Can someone point me in the right direction?

I just ordered a couple of kits from rock auto. About 5 bucks a kit. part # 38382. Comes with 4 bushings
a long pin and a short pin. So each kit will do one side of the car.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Sweet. Do you recall the part #? Or, what you queried when looking for it?

Let us know how it goes, I'd like to do mine.

I swapped out the bushings and pin on the upper hinge on Saturday. It already had bushings in it that were worn. I don't
know if they come that way from the factory or not. I knocked the pin out, used a small round chisel to reach inside the hinge to the opposite bushing
and tapped it out, reversed the sequence and knocked out the other bushing. Used the jaws of the vise to squeeze each new bushing in,one at a time
,packed the bushing bore with lithium grease and reassembled. All in , I think I spent 8-10 minutes on it. If you hinges dont have bushings
then I would suggest drilling the hinge for the bushings on a drill press in one straight shot. That way there is no misalignment
issues.
