    Actually If it is a 335 horse 383 with A/C it is orange,if its the 330 horse 383 without A/C,its turquoise(blue)My 70 Gran Coupe is the 330 horse with no A/C and the engine is blue,all original.

    Orange may be what he wants,but he asked what the original color was,which was blue,unless he had A/C,then is was orange

    Agreed,but if it is an "N" code the vin wont tell him if it had A/C or not,or if it should be blue or orange,only the fender tag.

    Hemi guy is right.  I had a brand new '70 Cuda w/ 383 HP, (one of the first in this area, my brother had the other one)  Both our cars had Hemi Orange motor.  Also I have seen quite a few others.  The local Dodge dealer has a '70 Challenger w/ 383HP & his engine is hemi orange,( all original car except ext body paint.)  But, it is your car, & if you aren't going back original, then red isn't bad either.  Plasticote also has a Chrysler industrial red that is pretty good too.   Ovmf

    Could we both be right?I Know for a fact the complete history of my car since it was new,been in my buddies shop the past 20 years and he finally sold it to me last year.The original engine color is blue with 73k original miles on the car.I read somewhere in one of my books,330 hp 383 was blue and 335hp w A/C was orange,did the cars you are talking about have A/C?Or did Chysler have 2 colors for the same engine in 1970,we both cant be right and I know I'm not wrong,lol

    Here is a note I found from Galen's white books.

    Some 1969/1970-1971 383 1-4bbl engines equipped with Air Conditioning and Carter 4bbl were found Turquoise/Blue.
    1970 383-4 335hp & 71 Engines were orange with Holley carbs.

    The part numbers book shows only low performance applications with carter 4bbls.
    The Holley listings show  a 4spd carb and 2 auto carbs(one with air).(only in Chall,Cuda,Coronet,Runner or B,J,R,W)
    There are alos listing for holley carbs with N95 and N96(shaker) options.
    So looks like the HP motors found in B and E bodies had Holleys. Should be orange.

    I use to work for a Plymouth dealer in the 70's and have had MOPAR"S since the early 70's and EVERY HI-PERFORMANCE big block in 1970  383--440--440+6 came hemi orange. Even the 340 and 340 + 6 came hemi orange. The blue motors were not the HI-PERFORMANCE engine. The 383 - 2 and the 383 - 4 that came in the Barracuda's and the Challengers weather Grand Coupes or S/E were 330 hp and were blue. The HP  383's were 335 hp and were hemi orange.JS27

    So i was right,hehe.But I wouldnt personally consider 5 horse power difference a non high performance motor.Even though they only made 674 gran coupe's with a 383-4 I think it is still considered and HP,As per Galens Decode of my car.Or isnt the super comando considered high perfomance?

    And another thing to look at/consider is that the high performance BB had a different exhaust manifold for a little better flow. right?

    Thanks guys for all your input.My car happens to have ac but was taken out a long time ago so it looks like the motor should be orange.The car used to be a drag car and we found out this weekend that it must have a different crank because the stroke measured 410 or some where close to that.The bore measured to be a stock 383 with no overbore yet.I was wondering if a 400 or 415 crank could have used in the 383 block ?.These mopar are new to me and I am learning every day so thanks again for all your input.
