having issues removing the steering wheel

Ok so im changing out the ignition seitch in the column, i pulled the wheel and the crush can, now im stuck here, i pulled all the screws and the "C" clip, doesnt seem to be anything holding it now, but it still wont budge.  WTF  soaked in some liquid wrench, no good, tried using a wood block and a hammer to tap it to break it loose but no good there either.  Anybody got a solution?

Yea, that collar can be a ***** to remove. If you could some how put pressure on it with pry bars while tapping on the steering shaft with a hammer (replace the large nut to protect the threads...

I typically do these while they're out of the car so I really don't envy you right now..

the inner brg race is sitting on splines , if they have not been moved in a while it can be tough to get the brg off the splines

I just went through this when I replace my TS switch.
Couldn't get it off, but it didn't matter.

I was able to remove the old switch and snake the new switch connector and wiring through the opening.

It took a little time, but it definitely can be done.

Just reread your post and realize you're doing the ignition switch.

Unless you need this thing right away, I'd give it a week of spraying it daily. GM used to make the best penetrant called Heat Riser Valve Lubricant. I also kept a broken off chisel from my air chisel and ground the nose flat. As mentioned, I'd put the nut on and run it down flush with the shaft and prying/pulling upwards, apply the air chisel and cut down bit to the shaft/nut. Sometimes it's amazing what a good vibration can accomplish. Obviously, don't get carried away and mangle the shaft, but if you're grasping at straws, it's worth a try. Just my

I recently pulled mine by using a slide hammer. Used a long 1/4 20 screw and came off fairly easy. If you have a steering wheel puller to pull the wheel you should be able to attach it to the 3 bolt holes in the center.

Classic Industry sells the tools to remove the bearing. Looks like the same tool in the service manual. I looked into it when I was working on the lock. Managed to change the lock without taking the bearing off. I think Mopar Jack's idea with the slide hammer should work too.
