A First for CC.C...Whats wrong with my Restoration...
« on: April 04, 2013 - 06:24:21 PM »
This may be the first time that a member has asked for other members to find something wrong with how I did my restoration.      I really want to know and  promise not to get upset at anyone.    :worshippy   This is a way for me to improve my attempt as this was my first time actually tearing a car apart and then putting it back together and keep in mind that all the work except the paint was done in my house garage.       :working:    I know some things that are not totally correct......just looking to see if you guys can spot them too.............This may turn into a fun time for all.  Like hunting easter eggs......but you don't win anything........ :faint:

I will post a link to my website and this weekend will add some more pics more recent.  This gives you a chance to review over 6 years of work.

Link is...................   http://www.papadaveonline.com/index.html

And I have put up a few to start with..........Thanks all for your future input...............David

Later year Rally gauges and steering wheel. Late year Rally wheel center caps.

Hey, that's nothing I would lose sleep over. You did a fantastic job with the car.   :2thumbs:

Beautiful & rare car , I would be proud of it , congrats on the trophies as well  :2thumbs:

looking through some pix it is hard to determine a time line .
M/T valve covers & wiring on the right side on the inner fender , the wiring should be run down the valve cover to the alt & cross to the inner fender for the horns & washer . I would not recommend changing it though without the correct valve covers as the wiring would sit on the intake & could burn there .
No electronic ign in 70  , I have taken to hiding the ecu under the battery tray or inside the car .no big deal it is an accepted modification in most cases except gold certification .
The wiper motor should be natural alum with a cad plated motor .
the BB stripe looks off a little , maybe a bit narrow at the top of the right fender as it goes onto the deck , looks wider at the bumper & a bit narrow at the top ?
I think the brake booster was black in 70 not cad .
4 pin ballast , should be 2 pin
71 air cleaner with hose wrapped around the base 70 was on the other side
Center hood bumper missing taller bumper
 torker intake
black dist cap , should be tan
no fan shroud
just a few things from the pix I looked at .
 Neil
do you still have the seat belt light on the dash ?

Dave I give you credit  :worshippy. It takes some big ones to do something like this. What you're doing is kind of like slitting your wrists and then going for a swim with the Great Whites - you're asking to get eaten alive!  :22yikes:

BTW, I like your car and think you have done a great job with it.
Cheers!

I restore Mopars for a living and mostly E Bodies so I some things just kinda jump out at you... www.alangallantautomotiverestoration.com

I think it would be easier to list the things he did right instead of the things that are incorrect...

However, I do believe that this is one sweet looking ride and he should be very proud ! :2thumbs:

I was just surprised as there was no interior pictures and you seem to know what was wrong in the interior?

....and each picture in the link opens up to even more pictures... :chatting:

I did notice though that there is no real time line to the pictures....After posting about the black engine compartment, I found a picture with a yellow compartment....so I really don't know how the car looks today... :clueless:

I am neither qualified nor inclined to pick at this car and all I've got to say is that she's a honey for the money. Drive it and let the trailer queens yip at your rear bumper.  Ian

I love a full on original restoration as much as anyone but for a DIY resto I think you knocked this one out of the park. I look at my own Challenger and point out things that are wrong all day long, but I just blame previous owners.

Also Alan, I have been a long time reader of the Forum and always enjoyed following your restorations but it wasn't untill today that I realised you are located in Ontario. I hope you are around in a few years when I tear my Challenger apart.

I'm not going anywhere...and I agree, this yellow Challenger is real nice. I don't usually rip apart anybody's car, but he asked :dunno:
