Oh no!!!  :faint:   :scared:  did the bubbles stop at some point? Any water in the oil? (dipstick?)

No leaks at the pump. The bubbles were stopping at the same time the pump ( I think it was the pump)  started making noise. That is when I discovered the smoke and immediately stopped the engine. I drained the oil and luckily there is no coolant in it.  I hope I didn`t crack a head, and it`s  just the gasket.
The front seal and selector shaft seal of the trans are leaking as well, so I guess the easiest way to go is drop the K-frame and go from there.
I`m not afraid to to do some wrenching but financially this really sucks.  Not sure right now if I can hit the road this season...bummer

With all the plugs out turn over the motor by hand and see if any water/coolant comes out of the spark plug hole?   After that I'd do a pressure test on the cooling system to try and find the leak? You might have to pull of the headers to check for coolant coming out the exhaust ports?

if no water was in the oil and there was no water coming out the exhaust, I am not sure what makes it necessary to pull the engine at this point.

If the cooling system has coolant still in it....I think I would pull the waterpump and find out why it was making noise....sounds like it seized up to me...

I guess I am lazy but I don't see the point in doing a lot of work before I know what is wrong.

well,  it was definetely  burning coolant. I could hardly see the back of the car when standing in front.

okay, if it was coming out the tail pipes, then you would appear to have a leaking hg.  I guess the worst possibility would be a cracked head...

Bart, at a guess, the racket coming from the pump may have been it cavitating when the engine pressurized the system. With no pressure on the system, the positive pressure inside the cylinders would tend to push the exhaust gases out into the water jacket. There are products to determine the presence of exhaust in coolant. Hopefully it's a head gasket. What a PITA! I'd put a pressure tester on it ASAP and if it leaks down, pull the plugs right off the bat. A compression tester may give you a hint as to which side and cylinder so you don't have to pull both heads if you find it. I'd also find a good straight edge and check that head for flatness before I went further. Ian

boiled the stat in some water.  didn`t open at all, not even a little.  Next one will be boiled before installation...  :grinyes:
Gonna have the heads checked but I think it leaked coolant through the head gasket at cyl. #7.  Two or 3 of the head bolts under the exhaust port were not very tight...  :clueless:   I can`t think of anything else but heat being the cause of that  :dunno:
I plan to order this week; a new aluminium radiator, separate trans cooler, hv milodon water pump, gaskets, some seals to fix my trans leaks and last but not least.... a new stat. Advise from the shop was a mr.Gasket stat... how are these nowadays?  I`ve read about problems with them some years ago...
I was thinking Stant, but they told me these have more flow restriction  :dunno:

I understand Mr Gasket has a higher flow rate however I opted for the Motorad Fail-Safe thermostat which unlike common t-stats opens if it goes bad.
