2013 Challenger R/T trying to decide which options to get

Well I have looked around at the dodge dealers here looking for a new 2013 challenger R/T in white and no luck. the only thing I saw were some SXTs and 1 2010 R/T in silver with 15000 miles on it and manual transmission. What I am looking for is a white 2013 R/T with auto transmission with NO stripes and it looks like I can still order a Challenger just the way I want it and that would be a white R/T that I can make into a vanishing Point challenger. I saw a picture of one that had the old challenger script on the front fenders just above the side body line with the R/T below that just like the 70 had it and the old letters that spelled D O D G E on the front of the hood & it looked good.. The R/T classic has the challenger script too low down plus the side stripe. The options they  all have are confusing and I am not sure exactly what I would want or need option wise. Those of you who ordered your challenger what options did you get & wish you didn't  or didn't get & wish you did ? what about rear axel gearing and differentials what are the options there ? I will drive the car both in town & highway. The R/T is what I want as I don't need the srt8. I will try to post the picture I found and don't know who to give credit to for that picture.

I've looked at quite a few of them but have not gotten serious about it.  Since it appears the 2014 model will have an updated appearance, should be able to get a decent discount on 2013 models.  Here is one that I would like in an automatic though:

Go to a dealership that is willing to work with you.They have a car "locator system" :eek4: :dogpile: that will find a white r/t in your stste or in another part of the country.The only problem is you will have to pay extra shipping cost or buy it from that dealership and drive it home yourself.Most dealerships are lazy to go on locator,because its less profit for them.They will lie to have you special order instead. :smokin:

I wish I could find what I want  new on the lot and one that hasn't been test driven and beaten. I have never ordered a new car but have bought new off the lot as I did with my 85 Dodge ramcharger & 03 GMC sierra 4 X 4.  which axel ratio is good and they have no slip or sure grip axels as I cannot remember what it is called at this moment. I want to have the car equipped nicely without overkill. don't know if I would want a sunroof or not . I know a solid roof wont leak. The wife looked at subaru foresters all wheel drive and stopped by the dealership just to look andwanted a 2013 & they said they don't have anymore and they are not making the 13s now  and the 2014s were sitting there right off the truck still wrapped up. I wonder what the 2014 challengers will look like ?

but again which options for the R/T are overkill ?

Mine came with every option except the sunroof and Kicker stereo.  They also added the interior appearance package with the floor mats, chrome shifer, sill plates and branded car cover.  WAY more than I wanted as all I asked for was a blue stripper with minimum options, a Hemi auto with a high ratio sure grip and Super Track Pack. What I ended up with was heated leather seats, HID's, Top of the line DVD nav radio, Classic package with the stripes and Envy wheels etc.  They kept pushing this car because it was the only STP auto they had on the lot.  I asked them to look for a cheaper one (this one stickered just under $40k) and they said they would.  Over the course of the next few months they kept calling me when they got another one but all they were ordering were red and silver Challengers, without STP.  This was the only one in a color I liked (blackberry Pearl)  After months of back and forth they ended up selling me this car for what the base Hemis were going for.  That's the only reason I have such a high optioned car. 

I could do without the DVD nav, no use for that.  I don't need the HID's or heated seats or block heater (it's a warm weather car). The interior appearance package was wasted on me.  Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy the car, but I'm glad I didn't have to pay for all the excess options I didn't originally want.  It was a shocker tho when I went over the scales at the track with me in it it was 4505 lbs.
Yes I own a 1972 Dodge Challenger Convertible T/A S/E with a 440 Six Pak. Can it get any more wrong?

Wow!  That's pretty eye opening.  Would be interesting to see all the weights of the different model cars, or better yet, how much each option adds to get to that weight.  I thought at most these cars would weigh in at maybe 4100lbs at most.

That's almost 10000lbs more than an old small block Challenger, yes?  :clueless:

I built one online and ordered the track pack and stereo upgrade-that was all as the sunroof is too low of a roof for me

which model of R/T did you get ? I see they have R/T - R/T plus & R/T classic I want one in white with auto transmission. I don't know what the difference is in the sound groups or if something like 40gb hard drive is worth getting. As for navigation that would be nice however I know those get outdated at some point & don't know if there is a way to update that. I have a garmin portable I use in the truck  but if the challenger has one it may be better. is there a choice of axel gear ratios or does the R/T auto come with a certain gear ratio ? I looks like I may have to go to the dealer and order from the factory which is something I have never done. I don't need options like HID headlights as I am sure they are costly to replace should 1 burn out. what is the trac pack ? This car comes with a lot of choices & I want to make sure I do this right. Are the leather seats ALL leather  and heated seats  "? Lots of questions but I don't want to clog up the forum with them. I just fiqure the MORE bells & whistles the more things to go wrong.

Navigation systems usually allow updating by either inserting an updated disk or installing a USB key with the updated software (I've seen both depending on the maker).  Some of them might now allow for updating over wi fi or cellular but I can't confirm that.

I had a 2011. IMO the standard stereo system was not very good, I would upgrade. I know you want an automatic but boy that 6 speed manual was fun   :burnout:

Mine is the R/T Classic.  It comes with the special wheels, stripes and old style Challenger script.  If you look at the build and price menus they usually have a small description of what you get.  The R/T is the base Hemi with few options.  The R/T plus comes with a lot of options and the Classic comes with most.  Things like keyless entry, temp control, U-Connect, Self dimming rear view mirror with compass and fancy radio.  If you like your Garmin, don't bother with the in car nav.  It's less intuitive than my old garmin, and you can't access it while the car is in motion.

The Super Track Pack for automatic has better brake pads, shocks, and stability control off button (burnouts!)  I went around and around about gear ratios with the salesmen.  Apparently the "good" gear ratio is reserved for manuals.  It will physically bolt in to the auto cars, but ruins the fuel mileage rating so no go from the factory.  The leather seats (standard R/T ones anyway) are all leather and heated. 

A lot of these options are only available in packages, not individually so you have to decide do you want a stripped down model, or luxury sport.

what gear ratio is it that comes with the auto ? I want a good sounding stereo as well. I heard that the autos come with the feature of turning off 4 of the 8 cylinders at highway speeds, how is that feature and I also heard that with some  aftermarket exhaust systems that  cylinder shutdown also causes  an annoying drone has anyone here experienced that ? The classic comes with old script & side stripe what else in the classic ? I don't want that stripe and the location of that challenger badge sits lower on the fender than I want. I plan on getting replacement  badges and R/T fender badges and place them where the 70 had them. equipment wise is the classic any better than the  R/T plus ? I bet some options may be over hyped by salesmen.
 sorry for all the questions but I would rather get them here and hear the truth & experience some of you have  instead of a car salesman telling me things. I wonder what kind of a deal I can get with  paying cash with a cashiers check  & not financing. ?

I have a SRT8. If I was going to get a RT, the track pack is a must for better wheels, shocks, brakes and a lower stance. You will need that to have a much better driving experience and get you close to the level of a SRT8. The stock navigation is not very good. A portable unit will have life time upgrade and will perform much better. As for stereo, there are plenty of aftermarket choices. One of our club member put in a 1200 watts system in his RT. You can see the spoiler flexes in sync with the tunes.

Thanks, this is helpful. I was wondering how good or bad the factory nav system was. The trac pack lowers the height ? How much clearance does that front spoiler or air dam have ? Do you have any problems with it hitting those speed bumps of driveways that have the rounded  curb entry instead of  a flat driveway  approach ? you know the ones that  some car front ends will hit with a thud underneath when backing out onto the street.  a friend has a car that hits hard underneath unless they back out of the driveway very slowly. the Challengers front spoiler looks pretty close to the ground as it is.   I really appreciate all the help here as I want to make the best informed decision I can. I want to get the right R/T so I don't end up with options I don't need or are.

On the 2012  it tells of incorrect rear ride height. its about 9 or 12 from the top of the list.
