Might have finally found a sweet first mopar
« on: April 10, 2013 - 08:01:36 PM »
Found an ad for a claimed rt/se, with a 440 (not original, originally a 383) no ac, no power steering, and no power breaks, BUT it looks pretty nice for the price. (15k)

Sounds good.  Be sure to crawl under it.  Take your camera. It's unbelievable what you can forget once you get home.

Check VIN on the radiator support, cowl, dash tag, fender tag.

Ask for buildsheet.

Climb underneath and check for soft spots in the floors, frame rails, torsion bar crossmember.

Check the trunk for rust, repair.

Vinyl top bubbles.

Automatic or four-speed?

If it all looks solid, $15k for an RT-SE is pretty good!

Im guessing it isn't an se. I may not be getting this just due to the reason that it is a no PS PB and no AC car, 15k really is my limit and even if I get him to lower it I still would need to do work on it to make it a PB PS AC car. Im still checking it out though. Also had my eye on a 69 charger for 18k (could probably get the guy to knock it down to 15)

Get the VIN, it'll tell if you if it's a JS23 (R/T) or JS29 (RTSE).

PS/PB easy to retrofit.

AC...a bit more $$.   VintageAir makes a nice retrofit.

But that's all bolt-on stuff.  Hard to find a good running, good looking, solid body Challenger, much less an RT (or RTSE) for $15k.  How close are you to Virginia to look at it?

I am going to call this guy up tomorrow when I'm free and pick his brain about it. When I get the vin I will make sure to post it, could just be a clone, who knows? . Virgina isn't TOO far but it isn't right around the block either, it is a Couple of states up.

My 318 73 has PS, PB & AC but I'd trade for a big block 70-71 in a heart beat.  The later cars generally have these types of options but aren't nearly as desireable in the long run as a 70-71 car.  The car looks good from what I can see, if you can wrangle a lower price I'd say go for it and add the options you have to have later.  Just my opinion.

Later, Jim

I probably could make a cash deal and use what I saved to add whatever I need. Body looks fine in the pics but there are no pictures of the engine or underneath the car.
