Top Gear BBC doesnt care much for Mopars
« on: April 12, 2013 - 07:20:35 PM »
I know. Your response might be: who cares? or: Old news.
I generally love the show, but I was watching an episode yesterday where they just absolutely ripped a 300C to pieces, even literally, breaking parts from the interior to show how cheaply made it is, and at 40k euro apparently pretty expensive over there.
They generally dont care much about US cars except for the occasional vette or viper, but even those get made fun of more often than not.
My favorite episode is the one where they come to vegas speedway and get their butts handed to them in their high dollar exotics.

They routinely bash Americans and American cars except for the short guy who likes musclecars.

Would love to see them yank parts out of an M5 or one their beloved british cars.
Last I knew, most british cars are still absolute junk. Of course they dont produce much there anymore anyway. I wonder why?
Unfortunately, we are headed in that direction too. They just seem to be about 50 years ahead of us.
One of my other favorite shows is wheeler dealer. Those guys are entertaining and generally seem to love all kinds of cars. and they seem to showcase cars that everyday people can buy.
Top gear is very well produced and funny though.

I've seen them drive our "american" cars a couple times and bash them. But pay close attention. Quite often when they are driving them hard on the track, they are almost always smiling and having a good time. I have seen them drive pricey exotics and not enjoy the track time with them.

Don't worry. They bash our Aussie cars too.
I find it interesting though that while they are doing their bashing they are always comparing our cars to something euro that is MANY times the price tag.
I reckon that speaks quite highly of the US and Oz offerings.
FWIW the euro stuff they love just doesn't survive over here.
Very few old BMWs,Audis,Mercedes around because they HAVEN'T survived. Those that are still around and in good order are cheap too.
Even US cars used as daily drivers don't survive over here.No offence intended because I love US cars. Our 300Cs,Nitros,etc have revised suspensions to cope with Oz conditions.
I think,in general, each country builds cars to suit it's home environment and largely I think they all do it reasonably well.
Burnouts are cool but Traction is the Action

I believe the Hamster owns a 69 Charger with a big block. I know they like to poke fun at American cars but I thought it was
funny their last race: the 2013 GT500 Shelby vs the Train, where the train won. But even though the GTV train won in the end the very next episode
they were talking about how many Brits wanted to buy one badly but we wouldn't import them.

When Ford announced they would import a Mustang into Britian they would only allow the 6 banger which is there just desserts!!!

the whole show is full of BS,  and the crew will tell you it is too  :grinyes:  ok, they may overdo a bit when it comes to us cars, but they will tell you what sucks about a 200k  Porsche or Ferrari as well    At least they didn`t transport that "leaky" cow on to of a mopar....  :puke:  :smilielol:

i think its quite simply the greatest show on tv.  i absolutely love it.  their special episodes are fantastic.  the belize is my favorite, but the india was good, the african one was good, its just a great funny show.  and the relationship between the 3 seems very natural and believeable.  doesnt bother me at all when they bash americans cause most of the time what they are saying is largely true, and they bash others, even brits, just as much.

I personally prefer the American version of top gear. Tanner Foust is one hell of a driver and those guys pick on each other quite a bit too. The pranks are fun but they also do cool challenges.

Captain Slow has even stated that its really an Entertaining Sitcom Featuring cars rather than a facts based review show.

Clarkson routinely releases his own video every couple of years, and those have been shown to be rigged to put down the American cars.  For example where they raced a Mustang against a real mustang and it lost.  however when it came to the actual race, it was a V6 Mustang. Yet they were presenting it as the 300hp GT:

If you watch it purely for entertainment, then its a good show.

What was the one where they came to vegas?  They ended up admitting that all three American Cars were great, and fun.  In the episode (whether its true or not who knows), it was said that in the 11th hour, Dodge changed their mind about loaning them a challenger, since they were certain TopGear would biasedly trash it.  So they had to buy one privately.
