Indy Cylinder Head offers a wide range of Mopar crate engines and gives you a ballpark idea of what various combinations are going for (pricing is shown on their web site or in monthly ads in Mopar Muscle, etc).

Two examples:

426 Hemi 475hp / 500 TQ all-iron $15.5K

526 Hemi 650hp / 623 TQ aluminum heads, pump gas $20K.

I suspect there are both better and worse deals out there if you look hard enough, but these price points should give a good idea of what things cost.

Wow this stuff can break the bank quick!

How much do original era hemis go to if you can find one? If I needed  to I can fab up my own headers that's not a issue for the 440 conversion but I think I would just go with a Hemi. My car is a 340 auto car. I believe the k member, engine harness will need to be changed? What else? Trans? Are the front end parts all the same?

You might consider doing business with Carlos over at Submission Engines  http://submissionengines.com/

He built my 605HP - 412cid -SB.  He's a GREAT guy, and knows ALL there is to know about Hemi Engines.  He specializes in them and even has his own Hemi block design.  I believe it would be well worth your time to give him a call.  He prefers dealing with customers the old fashioned way; in person and via phone, rather than via email/text.

From what I understand all Hemi cudas came with a shaker hood?  I remember hearing that somewhere? So if I drop a Hemi I will need to change my hood also?

On 'Cudas, yes.

On Challengers, Shakers were an option.  That's why you see MOST Hemi Challengers with Rallye hoods.

Are you lookin for a bunch of horsepower Or just the look of a hemi? If you want it to look oe then 426 hemi for sure if your just looking for good hp and fuel economy go gen 3 hemi. 425 hp stock and will idle all day never get hot and reliable. An of the higher end hemi with 600+ hp will take race fuel and be hard on parts. I bought a srt 6.1 for my 70 but will probably sell it to fund the 71 project as I want to go oe style on it

Not necessarily true. My Gen 2 Hemi has a little over 800 HP. It runs on pump gas. It has been together for over 7 years now. It gets driven regularly on the street between March and November. Never had a component failure of any kind.....    :2cents:

That's a strong combo 800 on pump gas is hard without alot of cubic inches. My race motor only makes 933 and is about 15:1 on methanol. Do you have a build thread or any details on the motor?  I am always interested in the motor builds. What kind Of car is it in? Any chassis alterations?

It's 528 CI.  Mopar 528 Mega Block. Eagle forged bottom end with 10.5-1 compression.  Indy aluminum heads with full CNC porting. Roller rocker gear. Comp Cams Custom grind roller. Ray Barton massaged crossram with two - Holley 750 HP's. Custom 2-1/4 headers. A little north of 800 HP and 760 TQ - on 93 octane pump gas. Several members here have seen it. I took it up to Carlisle in 2006 and met with a bunch of the C-C.Com folks. It is in a '69 Fastback - the car in my avatar. Lowered 2" with ladder bars. Car is backhalved. Runs 9.60's with no problems. I didn't build it to be a race car, just a quick little street car.  I could change the converter, rear gears, and carbs and go lay down a number. But that's not why I did the car....

Hmmm well to find a shaker hood on top of buying a Hemi might be too much. I guess you kinda need a shaker hood with the Hemi

Wow! "Lay down a number"? Running 9.60's in "street trim" I think that you already have! :worshippy That's wickedly fast for the street!  :burnout:
Cheers!

any of tha MAJOR engine builders can help u as posted abobe but...anything in crate form from summit or other warehouses i would have dissassembled and clearance checked,,that was rec from several race shops because of the practice of "slap it together and get it out so i can bill it mentality",if u want higher horse motor buy the parts separate, have your machine shop check ALL measurements and assembly yourself.or your knowlageble buddy's..you will save ALOT of money,,,probably half!

thats what i did with the hemi i sold prior to this car,,,as another poster said,,u can easily get into the 800-900+ range on pump gas,,,,its all in the heads and roller valve train...

when i got it back from marino's machine here all the bearing, rings, pistons, rods were all marked where they go...just like painting by the numbers,,,,,actually it was...
same applys to 425-500 horse motors...who test fired it on the dyno?what oil and additives, flat tappet??trust no one!!!lol.$$$

Aruzza even offers a Hemi that straightens out the push rod angles.
I've never seen it anywhere but it looks quite interesting.
