PLEASE SHOW ME YOUR EXHAUST SYSTEM.
« on: April 20, 2013 - 07:50:13 PM »
Hey Moparians,

I purchased the X type 2.5" Magnaflow system for my 71 440 Cuda automatic (with headers) with rear valance inserts and gettin ready to take it to a muffler shop to get installed. (not sure if Chally exhaust is the same or not but if so, please show your Chally exhaust as well)
I have it temp hung and bolted together just to see how it goes in and looks and realize it's needing a little tweeking when being professionally installed. I did my homework here searching for tips and pics and found a few things but not many pics.
I am asking you all if you would please post some pics of your exhaust system and maybe some things the welder can be advised of.
I plan to show the welder any pics and tips to make his job a little easier but to mostly give me a great looking exhaust setup.
Any pics from the headers all the way to the rear valance (maybe showing clearance from the under carriage, fuel tank and axel area as well) would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I still need to get the square tips that go thru the rear valiance

Thank you in advance everyone.

do yourself a favor and dont have it welded in,,,when servicing your car for future upgrades/changes  whatever it will be much more user freindly,,,i know,,because over the course of time i have had to install/un install/ install numorous times,,,there never done....wide band stainless clamps will be your friend...

Cudaman Tom,

I'm considering the same exhaust system for my 71 Challenger 440 w/4sp. Planning on using Doug's headers. Hope this post gives some good advice and pics as you requested.

Be sure and let us all know how the install progresses.

I used TTI twin 3" X-pipe exhaust with TTI headers on my challenger.
The exhaust tips were an aftermarket stainless steel item that came from Canada somewhere.
One thing I anguished over for a while was how far past the valance to project the end of the exhaust tips.
After combing through lots of resto books and looking at way too many pictures.I ended up deciding about 3/4" projection past the valance was about right.
It ended up looking right.
Not sure if the same projection works for a cuda but just putting it out there.
It's small details like this that are often not even thought about until it's too late.

I too have the magnaflow 2 1/2" stainless kit/system . I like it. I used headman headers with a "ball socket" flange. You do have to fabricate a bit on the passenger side header somewhat to get things to line up. It was awhile ago, but I think I used another mandrel bent stainless elbow, "cut and pasted" to get things where I wanted them. ( I had from a previous project) . You will need to pull the back seat so you can bolt in the muffler hangers. I did anyhow?  Sorry I don't have any pictures.
Hope that helps!

That's a good point. I'm pretty sure I need to at least have the header collector welded because they are the same size as the pipes. But for the rest of the system clamps will be used.

Thanks for the input. That's one of the tips I'm looking for. Especially when noticed just walking around the car. Yours looks great!!!

I used the MF 3 inch pipe kit and wish I would have used the 2.5 instead, due to the sound on long trips. I also added a resonator out back that helped the drone in 6th gear. I agree don't have it welded up solid. Also have your tips ready when you go have it installed so they can set them correctly.

So what's throwing you off? The "show me" or "exhaust system" or is it just the "Please" part?  :roflsmiley: :smilielol:
