Window Felts/Cat Whiskers/Fuzzies/ Weatherstripping??
« on: April 22, 2013 - 07:32:28 PM »
Looking for advice on weatherstripping/window felts/fuzzies/cat whiskers.  Who make the best/most correct?  Who sells? Best price? Etc?  I have scoured the internet and have seen too many products/retailers/sellers claiming that what they're selling is the "best".  Looking to buy a complete set (8 piece inner/outer) for my '70 Challenger Convertible.  Thanks in advance for the advice.

I recommend you go with Dave or Jon at Roseville.  That's where I got mine, and they worked fine.  (Although mine was a hardtop)

Mention CC.Com for a special price.

On my last 20 or so cars that I've restored I've only used ToPCaT window fuzzies. In my opinion they are the most correct and best available on the market :2cents:

Thanks guys.  I bought a bunch of stuff from Roseville recently and got the C-C.com member discount.  I saw the TOP CatWhiskers for sale from several sources claiming they are the "best" available.  I have also seen PUI products where sellers claim they are the most accurate, but have heard from one seller (who won't tell me what "best" whiskers he sells) that PUI sucks.

Here's what I'm going with in case anybody's interested:

I will be ordering the 8 piece "TOP CatWhiskers" window sweeps from Dixie Restoration Parts today.  I will also get the Metro door seals (don't know from who yet).  However and unfortunately, Metro does not make A-pillar post seals for E-body Convertible.  Only one available that I can find is SoffSeal; so I have no choice but to go with that.  I will be ordering those from either Dixie Restoration Parts, or Dante's Mopar Parts.

I cannot remember what brand I got,  :misbehaving:   but they fit like crap. The rubber is shaped opposite from the factory ones and it`s too short so it hardly touches the glass and gets pulled down when you lower the glass.  Just sayin`.... there`s a lot of difference in quality

From what I've learned in my recent quest, PUI Interiors (Parts Unlimited, Inc.) makes the crap ones, and that First Place Auto Products makes the official "Mopar Authentic Restoration Product" of the Window Felts.  I decided on the TOP CatWhiskers because I have read nothing but very good feedback on them, and they are $40.00 cheaper for the 8 piece set.

Anyone used the Year One outers?  I don't need all 8, just the outer 4.

Thanks
Tom

From "First Place" web site

Dear Customer,

We regret to announce the passing of the founder and owner of First Place Auto Products, Fritz Wurgler on Dec. 13, 2013. He was a caring father, husband, grandfather, and a devoted friend to many in this world. We will miss him dearly.

Fritz was the engine of First Place Auto Products and also its key employee. Without him, we have no guide to continue the business ourselves. Nevertheless, demand for the ultra high quality products of First Place Auto Products remains as high as ever. As the family transitions the product lines to the new owner(s), we request your patience as we work through this period to get the parts back on the market ASAP. We apologize for the inconvenience but are happy to advise we expect the transition will be complete in early 2014. Should you have any questions, we welcome you to contact us at transitions@fpap.com.

We wish you the very best in 2014.

Best regards,

The family of Fritz Wurgler

So who's the new owner(s) :dunno:

http://fpap.com/

Lebanon, Ohio — Trim Parts Holdings Corp. (TPH), parent company of Trim Parts, Inc. and Parts Unlimited (PUI) has acquired the assets of First Place Auto Products (FPAP) of Canton, Ohio. Mitch Williams, CEO of Trim Parts Holdings stated:

"Mopar enthusiasts around the country are mourning the recent passing of Fritz Wurgler, founder of First Place Auto Products. We felt that the best way to honor his passion for Mopar products was to purchase the assets and continue with the First Place Auto brand. We will soon restart and expand production of FPAP products within our TPH Group. FPAP manufactures a high quality product and is known as one of the top brands in the Mopar Market so it was a strong fit for Trim Parts Holdings. Customers of FPAP shouldn't notice any difference as we will continue with the high quality FPAP is known for and the great personal service that Fritz was known for. The only difference moving forward will be that FPAP will enjoy the natural advantages of being part of a larger group of companies".

so in above posts PUI sounds like the incorrect versions. does this 'acquisition' mean they will sell both now?
