My Challenger originally came with a slant 6 in it, and after buying it I was thinking I was going to put a bigger engine in it in the future. Well after thinking about it I kind of want to just rebuild it because I think it is kind of cool that it came with a slant 6 in and I have never see a Challenger with a slant 6 in it. Just wondering what you guys think about it. The engine runs great by the way so the rebuild would be a little further in the distance.  Has anyone done a rebuild on engines? what do prices look like on a rebuild? i know there are a lot of stuff that can effect on a price of rebuild just looking for ideas.  :feedback:

Those slant sixes go forever if it is good now it should be for a long time.

rebuild, and put a turbo on it
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

One of the members here did a restoration of a /6 duster.  You can find the thread here: http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=52004.0  Not sure if he did a complete engine rebuild but the before and after pictures around page 5 are pretty impressive

The Slant is a unique engine in a lot of ways & overall is very strong but they are very limited by the small bore & resulting small valve sizes , the do respond very well to head porting & milling the head .100 to increase compression & better Cam profiles , I also use the Alum 2bb intake with an adapter & the Holley 500 cfm carb , a low restriction exhaust helps too . I have used the Alum 4bb intakes also both the short & Hyper Pack style . Fuel dist is tough , the carb is so far away from the head so it gets no heat so it runs very poorly in cooler weather .
 I have seen them with EFI & blowers , this helps a lot , Efi is very helpful with fuel dist & you can easily run the Hyper Intake & a lrge throttle body . If you decided to go with forced induction with a blower or turbo the engine will really respond as the valve size is small for the displacement so getting air into the engine will increase power dramatically .

As long as you're OK with a little slower pace I say "Go for it".  I had a friend in high school that wanted his own version of my Roadrunner, but his parents wouldn't let him put a V8 in his Sattelite so he just built the /6.  He put an aluminum 4 bbl intake and header pipe, a little more compression & better cam, don't recall if he had any head work done, but even in the Satellite that was a snappy motor.  Didn't slam you back in your seat, but fun enough around town.  I have the same decision to make with the 318 in my very original Barracuda.  I was thinking it might be cool to keep the original motor since its been in the car for 40 years already.
