Body Trim
« on: April 24, 2013 - 07:16:58 PM »
I was thinking I need to add some Stainless trim pieces to help break-up all the red. I am leaning towards some wheel well trim trim and maybe a rocker panel trim what's the opinion of the board. Going to Spring Fling so hoping to pick up the pieces there.

I think '70 Rocker Gills and wheel lips would look good. I think the rocker gills would make a bigger impact and they are '70 and go with your hockey stripes.

I think that 70 rocker moldings would be a great option; the car is an accumulation of all the things that I like in a Cuda it’s a 73. I installed 72 bumpers front and rear I always like the hockey strip which is a 70 option, along with the 440 BB.  It started life as 318 and the last I looked I didn’t see anyone really wanting an all original 1973 318 car.  I am going to really check out that rocker molding at spring fling thanks for the suggestion.

Adding the 72 V21 hood blackout would do a good job at breaking up all the red.  Putting side markers back on the car would help too.

I thought filling the side markers would give me a cleaner look not sure I made the right decision

Okay...Here's the problem....
You've made the car to look like a Cuda, with the stripes, and hood etc..., but the reason it looks plain or "too much red" is because it's missing all the standard Cuda trim.

ALL 1970-1974 Cudas (non Hemi) CAME STANDARD with wheel lip moldings, rocker moldings, belt moldings and tail panel moldings NO EXCEPTIONS...These were NOT extra cost options on a Cuda, they were part of the CUDA package. PERIORD.

The problem with most people who try to "clone" a Cuda often make the mistake of not including all this trim on their cars and it results in a very poor clone.  I'm not saying this is the case here...

You are building the car to your liking not trying to clone something I understand.

With that being said...I think 70 fish scale rocker moldings and wheel lip moldings at the very least... :2cents:

Another vote here for marker lights too... :clueless:

I am going to add wheel lip moldings and and the rocker molding, I do have the molding that goes around the trunk lid with the side extensions. I am not sure what a belt molding is could you please tell what that is? I was talked into shaving the marker lights by the paint and body guy quote "it makes the car look cleaner", not sure how hard to add them now. I have done most of the mechanicals myself, not much of paint and body guy.  I will wait and see how it looks when I install the rocker and wheel moldings.

...stand next to your car....Now look at your waist.....See where you wear a belt ? That's where your car would wear belt moldings.... :smilielol:

Belt molding is the trim you find on the tops of the doors and quarters at the bottom of the side glass.

Here's a 74 Cuda with 70 rocker moldings.

installed the wheel lip moldings, it took some persuasion but they finally agreed with me that they were going on the car like it or not. I did get a set of belt moldings not really sure how they are installed need to do some research on how those fastening clips work.  Wife not sure about rocker moldings yet so I am just going to add a piece at a time let the car tell me what it needs. But do like how the wheel trim looks.  :2thumbs: belt moldings next :clueless:
