MSD Distributor on 528 Hemi
« on: April 26, 2013 - 12:08:17 PM »
Hello to all. I have a question. I am getting close to start buying my shaker hood for my 1970 Challenger RT/SE. I do not have any parts that go on carb. I am looking at getting a MSD Distributor { part number 8546}. My question is will the distributor cap and wires hit the bottom plate of the shaker? If so will it work or do i need to stay with the accel distributor it came with? Would really like to use the MSD Distributor.

Thanks

The MSd offers a lot of adjustability but if you have not bought I would run a New Mopar dist , they are just as adjustable & only send a signal to the ign when to fire

its questionable with the 8546 billit,,,,im running the 8387 billit vac adv model and theres plenty of room..

id run the 8387,,,u get ALL the advantages of the billit plus the advantage of vacuum if u want it...

as far as adjustablility goes,,u cant beat msd,,if u ever have tried setting up the other brands,,i have,,there not fun,and dont set right, and stay set,,i hate msd's marketing..but they have there s%^t together,,,run it with or without there on board electronics,,,,if using after market heads some clearancing will be involved,440,but it will clear the shaker..

I have aluminum heads, is that going to be a problem? They are after market.

Thanks

my above statement was more geared toward 440's with after market aluminum heads,,because of the thicker material at that point i had to grind off appx 50 thousands to clear the heads,,with hemi's,,all i can tell u is goggle search it ot call msd and ask them,,they do say on there web site i would have that problem..but as far as setting them up there great,,easy, straight forward,,and stay set,

Maybe call MSD, get exact dimensions of distributor, then make a mock up distributor to check clearances.
Or go to a parts store and take some measurements of one?

I would think someone out there bought this distributor and has put it on a 426 or 528 hemi that has a shaker hood. I was hoping who ever that was would post a picture of it.

Thanks
