I got 2 ballast resistors in the glove box just in case, a replacement voltage regulator, and soon a spare ECU.

my engine use to quit, turned out the ecu was too close to the headers, and getting too hot. after it cooled down,
it would work again.
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

You using Stabil in the gas tank. New modern gasolines are garbage for longer term storage. Try squirting some new gas down the chute but after what CP said to do.

One day I drove to the variety store in my 340 Dart, got out, made my purchase, came out and all she'd do was turn over. It was the GD ballast resistor and that's where my money is at here. good luck  :thumbsup:

I'm going to try the new ballast resistor route first as pretty cheap to buy and if that doesn't work I will go on from there. Thanks for all the suggestions and hopefully will be back cruising in no time!!

i know this does not apply to all original cars but, after seeing smoke coming from my original type installation""ballist resister" with a chrome box,,there supposed to do that at 1st,,yes they heat up to throttle current,,in went my MSD box..right where the windshield washer was supposed to go that i would never use,,,i dont even wash it with the garden hose,,,

the smoke coming from the fire wall upon start up was to say the least,,,alarming..... old school tech..

Ya, I dumped the windshield washer motor, and the heater box.

Dang, without going to an MSD system, you'd think we could come up with another mod
to eliminate the need for the ballast resistor, since it seems to be responsible for a lotta
Mopar folks being stranded on the side of the road! Come up with a good idea, and get rich!!

Or at least design a more durable/robust one!!! After all, we put a man on the moon in 1969!

Maybe put a bypass line around it, so you could flip a switch, and have current, as least to start you
and get you home, if the ballast resistor goes out!
