Need Wix filter number
« on: May 08, 2013 - 12:13:18 AM »
I have a 1970 383 challenger.  I've seen reference to both 51068 and 51515 Wix filters for these engines and I think the 51515 is longer.

Is there a reason to use one or the other?  Or any reason not to use one or the other?  Thanks!

I would think the longer one has more filter material inside, so
it would last longer before clogging up.

I use K&Ns from Summit. They may have a higher burst strength.

K&Ns filter to 10 microns, I think. Not sure what the WIX filter to, but the
WIX have a good reputation for quality. K&Ns are supposed to have a
high tech synthetic filter material.

72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

Use the biggest filter you can fit.

NAPA sells those same filters under #1068 and #1515; Wix filters with a NAPA label   :)

Both filters are virtually identical. The 51515 is longer but the flow rate is the same, so use which ever
one fits best. And in Carquest the filter numbers are 85515 and 85068. Just FYI
If I cant fix it, it's broke
