My 70 Challenger...7 years of challenges...
« on: May 08, 2013 - 07:51:11 AM »
It involved the previous owner doing a terrible job of resto- and My Brother In-Law joining the party by adding some terrible body work, but after nearly 7 years, I think I've come much closer to being where I want to be with this car.
No it's not a numbers matching trailer queen. It's a 70 Challenger with some of "my influence" and I'm proud with what's been accomplished.

This car needed some real TLC, as the previous owner really didn't take care of it.
I replaced the quarters, all floor pans, trunk floor, firewall and other body parts that were rotted. The guy even tried to install some new floor pans in the front right over the old ones!
Thar meant cutting BOTH completely out - along with the trunk floor- and doing it right.
Hours and hours. (And a lot of swearing!)
-Rebuilt the dashboard- cleaned ALL mounting hardware, harness and reconditioned the gauges. (I am planning a Rallye cluster in the near future)
-Accurate Exhaust installed for the OEM look along with heat shields and new gas tank. (I forgot to mention the old tank had rust holes that had been patched with fiberglas! Yikes!
-Upgraded to power front disc- upgraded the rear drums, replaced all brake valves, lines and fuel line.
-Here are some pics of the work. More to follow.

The best part was- the new floor pans were "banged down" to come close to the old ones so you could get 1-2 seat bolts to bite. There were only THREE spot welds on each pan- and finished off with- are you ready- wood screws...about 15 of them per pan!
Nothing better than having to take 3x the amount of labor time to correct something that could have/should have been done right in the first place!
Thanks for the compliments though Drew!

wood screws........good one ,I found wiring from a toaster or a lamp, with wire nuts for the front wiring.

the time people take to do it wrong is the same amount of time to do it right :2cents:
