New Rubber
« on: May 10, 2013 - 11:17:09 AM »
Hi guys, trial fitting wheels/rubber.
I wanted big rubber on my mopar, and in keeping with the AAR/TA proportions, it came out to being 28x12 for the rears and 26x10 for the fronts.
10" rims in rear (5" backspacing), stock rims in front.
I had concerns about fitting the fronts rubbing, but it's only at full lock - doesn't bother me too much, I'll just be carefull.
The rear rim is about an inch too wide for my taste - I will probably narrow to 9 inches, but retain the 5" backspacing as that still gives me plenty of clearance to the springs (65~67 B-body width with 1" relocated springs).

I like the stance and looking at how the rear tires are almost flat on the side where they meet the rim, I think 9" rims would actually look better.  I like for the tires to be a little wider than the rims themselves.  It looks better to me and rubbin a curb isn't automatically catastrophic.  Nice car, too.

Yes, I will narrow the rear rim - looks too much like a balloon with the rim being so wide.
Weird how the front tire looks too small for the rim, even though it's wider AND taller than the F60 that was on there. That's the reason I just don't like the looks of radials on these old cars - they are too round and don't have the tuff squared off look. But I plan on driving the car a lot, and conceded that if I want it to handle somewhat decent that radials are the way to go.  And with the suspension upgrades I did, I'm not sure bias tires would allow me to fully utilize the upgrades.
Another reason I chose the Mickey S/R's, they are the most bias like looking radial tire to me. Unfortunately the don't come in raised white letter. I guess I'm a little old school that way.
