70 Hemicuda Convertible -

Here is are a couple of pics of one of the three Canadian 1970 Hemi Cuda Convertibles made. I took them in 1971 so they are getting a bit old now. I am looking around for some other photos I took that will be in black and white (unfortunately) but they will be good quality. When I was 20 years old I got into developing and printing photos so the old Cuda was the star of my backyard photography. I will have plenty more. You should have seen the look on my parents faces the day the old cuda pulled under the attached carport and idled, the entire house shook.

Lot of changes for a car that was only 1 year old...

The photo could be 71 to 73. It was street raced heavily. The motor had to come out 3 times in that period. It liked to spin crank bearings. The original owner painted it immediately. This car was a Canadian work horse. The amount of chevs, fords, etc etc this particular car spanked is insane. It was a fun car and it was used. Hindsight about this car would have been nice but thats how it goes. When you were young back in the 70's all you thought was pedal to the metal !

We dont know where this car is today. We can tell by some chipped paint under the hood that it was yellow from the factory. It was probably painted immediately to blue. It was an automatic. If the yellow auto on the list isnt the same one its definately the missing Canadian Cuda. It would be nice to get some info on its history if anybody knows. I know where to start looking if its the missing car but that would mean some travel and I dont want to do that until I can determine the history of the automatic on the list.

I forgot to say that if this turns out not to be the automatic, on the list it's possible it was never registered again because it was sold with a blown engine, haha yes again! What can I say, it was the 70's. This particular car educated a lot of people who thought they had fast cars, it was heavily street raced, Plymouth should have paid my brother to have this car. We would appreciate any help with knowledge of the list automatics history. Thankyou.

Interesting. Looking through my "unofficial" notebook that I keep on Hemi E-bodies the three Canadian spec HemiCuda 'verts were: 1) VIN 290994 Lemon Twist Yellow, black interior 4 spd car; 2) VIN 305097 Lemon Twist Yellow, tan interior auto car; and 3) VIN 156924, Limelight green, white interior auto car. So if your brother's car was originally yellow and an auto, I would say it had to be car #2 VIN 305097. That car was restored and is now owned by Legendary Motor Cars over in Ontario. I seem to remember reading an associated story about the car where it was running wild in one of the western provences somewhere north like Cold Lake or something - is that where you are from? Thanks Tom, we suspect that it is likely the Ontario car except for one thing, I have always thought the seats were white, I could be wrong. My brother can't remember. Thanks for the info, I will check it out. The yellow 4 speed can be seen online in Manitoba, you probably know that. I have to learn to post a link here. I am sure you can understand why I dont want to reveal this Cudas stomping grounds until I can confirm about the Ontario car, I have a way to get the purchasers name but its a bit of a process to go through. Thankyou for your help, I will let you know how it turns out.

Thanks, this is not the car, it is a 4 speed not an automatic plus the ownership dates overlap. This 4 speed car is in Winnipeg, it can be seen online.

This article http://mapleleafmopars.homestead.com/carsinbarns67.html includes four of the five Canadian spec HemiCuda 'verts: the Tor Red '71; the In Violet '71; and the two Lemon Twist '70's. The author starts the article off writing about the Yellow/tan/auto car at length and then he follows that up with a short blurb on the Yellow/black/4 speed car before moving on to the '71's. His transistion between the two is a bit ambiguous and since both the cars are yellow it can be missed and think that he is still talking about the first car (yellow/tan/auto) when he has actually transitioned to the second (yellow/black/4 speed) car.

What is interesting is that you seem to remember the interior of the car being white which neither of the yellow cars had. However, the third '70 'vert DID have a white interior and it was an auto car - but it had a Limelight green exterior. Are you sure that it was yellow you remember seeing under one of those chips in the blue repaint job? The Limelight green car is a bit of an enigma as I can't seem to find anything on it. I have found several different references to it and they all allude to it being wrecked and scrapped way back in the day, so I don't know much about the car.

Hi Tom, its been a lot of years, trying to remember things are tough. I called my other brother who also drove the car and he said the seats were white and he gives it 98 percent as being correct as well. Your comment about the green instead of yellow got me wondering about that. I took the photo that I posted and zoomed into that big paintchip on the passenger inside fender, I think its closer to lime green than yellow but still its a crappy photo. Its got me thinking though. My sister is trying to dig up more pics.
