First generation Barracuda
« on: May 10, 2013 - 08:32:12 PM »
I know the first gen. is not an e-body but I have an opportunity to purchased a wrecked 65 Barracuda.  Perhaps you can direct me to a different forum if you think its not appropriate for this one.    This car is a rust free California car with front end damage.  Owner says it needs front frame repair or replacement plus a grill, hood, bumper, left front quarter and inner fender, and radiator.  I am not familiar with these older ones but can you replace the whole front subframe on one of these.   Does it have a K member and torsion bar suspension?   What do you think it would cost to repair this if this is all it needs.  Owner says the doors are fine and open and close ok.  It has a slant six and automatic on the floor.   White with red int.  What would you pay for the car? Sorry for all the questions,   I would love to buy this car for my wife for her 50th birthday.

Not sure I'd want to estimate the cost of repairs.  I'd only say that you would need to get it fairly cheap, because I've seen either running or at least 'all there' & easily restorable examples of these go for $2000 - 3000 here in Georgia looking at Craigslist.  Finished cars are probably around $10k or so but even those are v8 cars or at least the ones I've been looking at are.  The early Barracudas are basically reskinned Valiants, but cool cars especially since most seem to have bucket seats, consoles, etc.  Looking at your pic I'd say that would go for no more than $1k here if that.  Cool car & needs to be saved by someone, you'll have to decide if that's you!  Good luck.

Any good body shop can pull the frame rails and straighten everything out and if the doors still open and close fine it doesn`t sound too bad.You are still probably looking at anywhere between $500-1500 for the pull plus finding clean fenders, grilll, bumper etc.As road runner said they don`t go for a lot in decent shape so I agree being a /6 I wouldn`t pay more than a $1k.

Yeah, the first gens go for little to nothing. My best friend has a white 65 and it is a beautiful car.

Think Valiant and you'll be there. Having said that and looking at the rather poor pic of the damages, it appears that the lft rail had been hit pretty good and it needs most of the rad saddle as well as the previously mentioned frt end sht mtl. Unless you're able to tackle it yourself, I'd pass as it'll be quite a few quid paying someone else. Just my  :2cents:
