Your never going to believe this!
« on: March 20, 2005 - 02:28:46 AM »
I will not tell you the type of car or where it is.  So please do not ask. At least not yet.

I, like many of you, I always stop and knock on doors when I see a MOPAR in the driveway, garage, or parked on the street.  I usually ask if they will come out to our MOPAR cruise events or just ask if it is for sale.  I have picked up a couple MOPARs in the last few years by knocking on doors this way.  This particular car has been sitting in a driveway for a long time.  I have stopped there numerous times already, made small chat with the owner or his elderly mother, and always got the same story, "not for sale, going to restore it".  I usually check back about every 3-6 months just to let the owner know that I am still interested.  The car has been sitting for 16 years at least, flat tires, rusting badly and is covered with boxes and other junk.  Today, I stopped by again to ask the same old question and got the same old answer "not for sale, going to restore it someday".  But today the owner let me go through the car close-up.  It is a real HEMI car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The owner knows what he has, but I cannot understand why he just lets it rot.  The owner is in his late 50s and gave a good account of how he was going to restore it.  He has owned the car for over 30 years.  Oh well.  Just had to tell someone as I have come across a lot of 318 and 383 cars like this but never a Hemi car!  The owner also stated that he had a friend in the Police department that purchased a 1969 Hemi Fury with a Police Package back in 1969.  Anyone ever hear of something like that?

I am not giving up hope.  Either he restores it or I will try to buy it before it is too late.

Sorry, do not have any pictures as I have known of this car for a very long time and its sad condition.  Did not anticipate this unexpected development from my visit today.  Have to tell someone, could not keep this all to myself.

Keep at him mate, a 383, 440, 440-6bbl and HEMI are all worth that, ANY E-Body is worth hassling for.

Just keep at him, if he knows what he has wonder what he'll let it go for?  :dontknow: :eekbig:

Wow, I could imagine your surprise when you saw it was a Hemi.  What a shame.  It isn't fair, you would give the car a much better home instead of having it sit there rotting away.  Keep at them, maybe your lucky day will come.

wow, i dream of finding a hemi car.
I am excited at finding any big block mopar.
I would be loosing sleep if i knew of a hemi car.

why dont you try trading him a really nice finished restored drivable mopar that he could have fun in today without all the work and expense.
Most people will never actually restore anything and they know it, so maybe a finished mopar driver would get him to trade? Take him for a drive and burn em off, he should be about ready for his mid life crisis when you get done :burnout:

I would gladly trade my 74 440 for it if I had the chance, no matter how rough it is.

Actually I don't think this is a great story. That guy is going to let that car rot until the wheels fall off of it. I don't get it, but there seems to be alot of those kind out there. It's like, "if i can't get around to restoring it, then nobody else will either". He should be neutered.

I know of a few cars like that myself, although no HEMI cars so far...
This has been in this same spot for 19 years that I know of.

A few more (that's a Cuda under that cover).

At first glance, I thought that last pic was a '70 Cuda motor home conversion.

Now I have seen everything.

ChallengerVert, was it a cuda or a challenger?  These people who "never get around to it" will NEVER GET AROUND TO IT!!  It's very frustrating to see them just rotting away.  Keep after it Vert!  Maybe someday.....
