It's been awhile, so I'm a little foggy here. I do know there is a loop towards the front of the door that the cable has to go thru. It keeps it out of the window's way when it moves up and down.

There should be a couple of clips or loops made of plastic that will hold the cable towards the FRONT of the door. There are small holes these clips fit into..

On my 70 there are a couple of loops or holes for the cables to go through. One is in front of the glass very high up. at this point the mirror cables should have a plastic sheath to protect from abrasion and deaden vibration and noise. The cable is not really long enough to take any other route and still have the window move.
The holes are in the metal frame of the door.
