heater box removal AC car
« on: May 17, 2013 - 12:47:19 AM »
Whats the easiest way to remove the heater box on a AC car? I did i search and came up with this. I believe it was for a 70 cuda:

"If its an A/C box the box itself has threaded studs that poke through the firewall that attach with nuts on the engine compartment side of firewall.  There are 3 nuts around the blower motor then 3 or 4 more nuts kinda evenly spaced across the firewall from the blower motor area over towards the drivers side of the firewall.  Then there is a hanger support bracket on the dash frame that connects to the front of the box behind the glove box insert.  I just went through replacing a heater core in an A/C box on my 70 Cuda and it also took me a bit to figure out how it mounted. "

I have my dash frame out of the car right now and cant seem to get access to the inside of the box? suggestions? thanks

Did you undo the 3 nuts that hold the heater box in that are located on the firewall?

Yup got the nuts off the firewall side. Would the ac lines be holding it in? Or do I need to pull something off the front

maybe the fresh air intake seal on top is a bit sticky?  or the foam seals around the ac lines?  If you only need acces to the inside ,I think you can take off the front half of the box. It`s held together by metal clips.
If the ac lines are still connected, you cant get the box out.

If you want to remove the whole "heater box" you're going to have to undo all the A/C and heater connections inside the engine compartment as well.
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

What's the best way to get the connections off? Do they need to be cut ?

The two A/C line have threaded connectors...the two heater hoses are just hoses/clamps.
