Hi folks.

I am installing a Summit rear disk brake kit on my fish.

Have a question about how the heck the e-brake cables are routed and get hooked up.

In the photo , the L shaped bracket i shown.   Supposed to mount on "the top front bolt".  Well, in that position, the bracket cant orient to allow the brake cable thru it......there are two other bolts nearby that  interfere with the bracket being mounted.......so I am confused.

This kit is a summit kit, but it seems that it is made by SSBC.  A couple other online brake places sell this same kit under their name too from what I can tell.

Hoping SOMEONE out there has the same kit and can offer some advice.

Thanks guys!

Ive got the same kit and couldnt figure it out either. I think that you need to fab your own bracket, and get custom cables. That "L " bracket dosent fit like they show. I have an auto trans so I put it off till later.

I just tired using the other "front" bolt and it lines up and all, but the cable is 3" too short.  I dont think there is that much "slack" in e-brakes cables......right?  My picture below shows that.  Juts three inches mnore and it should line up "ok". I think I will call summit on tuesday and see what they say.   Not really crazy about how twisted the stock e brake lines get either......I wonder if they will even work that way? Picture below.

What did you do with the caliper ends of the brake hoses they provided?   They have a c-clip on the end but no where to clip it to....LOL   I was thinking I could fab something like a plate to tack to the axle housing maybe....Dont think it would be good for the hoses to just be hanging free with the steel lines on one end, would it?

In retrospect, i would have really preferred to go with a kit like Dr Diff's.   Just didnt have the extra $400  (I got my kit used for $200) and I guess this is part of retrofitting any older car anyways...LOL

Thanks!  Looks like maybe I should flip the bracket around?  Although you dont seem to have the second bolt I have?? And I swear I tried that and it wouldnt go....maybe I have the brackets on wrong somehow?  The instructions say that the long bracket goes to the rear, the short on the front, with the ends facing in to the caliper though, and that is what I have.....

Thats what I thought too, but his setup looks like it is further toward the back than mine and he used the "long" bracket on top whereas mine is on the bottom per the directions....wonder if it would work better going the same way as his?

Driver side picture.

It's not the greatest bracket alignment but with some tweeking it will be good.

Thanks for the xtra pics!  Definately helped!  I re-oriented the e-brake l brackets like yours and now the cables reach fine.

The instructions for my kit say to have that longer black strap on the REAR whereas yours are on the front, so your calipers are oriented further toward the back than mine.....

Well, the kit is installed.  The pics here really helped!   E-brake appears to work!

Now am just waiting for the banjo/bleeder bolt that was missing from the "complete" kit I bought from a guy....had to special order thru summit.

The guy told me "Try NAPA" when I asked if he found the bolt for me.  I had to end up spending about $40 extra on this "complete" brake kit to get the parts I had to have.....

Never been dissed by a mopar guy before.

Guess there is a first for everything.

Hey mttchall --

Safe to assume this setup is still in use on your car?

I need one of the special bleeder/banjo bolts.......

I just found out that summit wont have the damn part I need for 1-2 weeks! THEN they ship it to me....so my car may be down for three weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This sucks.

Shadango,

Yes I'm still using SSBC at all 4 wheels.

Right now I'm upgrading the rear brakes to stainless steel flex lines and adding two adjustable SSBC proportional valves, one at the master cylinder for the front and rear brakes and the other one inline for fine tuning the rear brake (this one I can tune from inside the car just below in front of the driver seat).

Oh!, did you remember to switch out the proportional valve?

Yeah, I have an adjustable prop valve , but under the car....    :pullinghair:  LOL

So I can adjust rear bias.  I put that in when I switched to the pickup truck rear cylinders.

My car only had the distribution block (it was a drum car) but no stock prop valve.

I have Dr Diff's master cylinder.

Hoping it is a good combo!

:ylsuper: :ylsuper: :ylsuper: :ylsuper: :bananasmi :bananasmi :bananasmi :bananasmi :bananasmi

Brakes work!  E brake works (great!) !!   Car STOPS, no leaks!!!  Hit some potholes and the rear end is still attached!!!!!

So, looks like so far so good.   Definately an improvemnet in braking, and I havent touched the prop valve yet. Its still set for the truck rear cylinders.

I just wantt o run it a few miles as is to make sure nothing blows up, falls off, disintegrates etc.....LOL

(I guess I need to have more faith in my own work)

I really NEEDED this "win" today.....lots of disconcerting stuff happening at my workplace of 21 years and today was rough -  and to be honest I may need to be living in the fish down by the river at some point, so glad I can get it there! LOL

Not sure if I should update my other question threads or not?

Thanks to all for their advice and listening to me .  LOL
