Were they painted body color?

Was the fender bolted on the car when it was painted ?

Yes they were painted. The body was assembled(fenders, hood, doors, trunk lid, grill in some years) before it was painted. The lighter colors got a pinchweld blackout. Sometimes it was brushed on...sometimes it was sprayed on.

Thanks guys I posed the question, then got the bolts and cleaned them and they were the original color. Thanks.

I knew that man... My roof was welded to the car but it wasn't painted.... It was just metal under there with a bit of primer and some ugly Chrysler bondo work around the rear window. (SE car)...

I guess they didn't care to paint the roof so why paint the bolts..
