Went to the dyno - results inside
« on: March 21, 2005 - 02:14:24 PM »
Ok, so I went to the dyno hoping for about 220 RWHP.  As it turns out my bicycle has more power!    Here’s the cold hard facts…

132 RWHP corrected (107 RWHP uncorrected)  :banghead:  I'm thinking something's not reading right...
885 ft. lbs. GROUND torque (not flywheel) in 2nd gear

Here’s the build: Original 340 6 Pack (rebuilt at 60k has 40k on it) 10.3:1 TRW compression, w/chrome moly rings; 68cc chambers; headers (34” x 1 5/8th x 3”); gasket matched ports; shot peened, magnafluxed, sized & side polished rods; flat, back cut, 5 angled 2.02" narrow stem intake valves, bronze guides; Comp Cams HE268 cam (.218º @ .050, .456” lift), stress relieved T/A block .030 over; PTC 4,000 stall torque converter (www.ptcrace.com) out through a 3.55 Sure Grip. All this at 6,000’ elevation.

They wanted me (in the tan jacket) to run in 2nd gear and start the test above my converter lock up (3,800 rpm).

Here’s a small movie (800kb) on the dyno

The dyno pull.

Naturally, I was feeling pretty down, so in a desperate attempt to redeem myself in front of my Mopar brethren here’s what 132 hp can do. Notice the shift into 2nd!

dont let that get you down ...depending on the dyno you can have a 40% error .Obviously from your movie you are making the horsepower (just need traction )

The shop does primarily diesel work. The owner said he hadn't done gasoline work in years. The SuperFlow guy said the torque output was going to be high because of the multiplication from the tranny and rear end gearing.

I don’t know why he said to use 2nd, unless it had to do with my converter not locking up until 4,000 rpm. At which point I’d have probably needed to run 130 mph to hit 6,000 rpm in 3rd. Most everyone else ran in 3rd. Just FYI, 440’s were reading just over 200 RWHP.

Torque and horsepower should equal each other at 5252, and my graph doesn’t. Don’t know why things read as they do...

Something is off on his dyno. You are making more than 132 RWHP, and much less than 885 RWTQ. He should talk to the Superflow guys and find out what's up. He has a great dyno, though. My friends have one in their shop and it is a top of the line unit.

Question: Why are you running such a high stall for that mild cam? A 2500 stall would be much better. Otherwise you are throwing away the low end power of that cam (which is what it is made for).

I put the high stall converter in ahead of getting a bigger cam (.240º @ .050 .520") and flow work.  One step at a time and mantain driveability.

got to love Comp Cams the engine noses over at about the point where the converter lcoks up
 the cam is too small
the Chrome Rings are not the hot tip either , they could eb starting to seal soon

:puke: on that dyno. :ack:  That car should be at least within the mid 220's, if not more.  I'd definitely blame this on the error readout on the dyno.

Its definety a humbling experience doing a dyno pull, as we all think we have high H.P. cars. The # is what it is, we now live with it or we start building from here and make it bigger and badder. If you are happy with it then its all good.

So who gets the cheese???????????

And yes, that street did need repaved - Good burnout!

PS - you are making more than 100+HP - heck, my Jeep does...and it can barely break the tires free on wet pavement.

Thanks guys.  I'm climbing back in off the ledge!

I was fairly sure I'm making more HP than a 4 cylinder motorcycle...

As far as the cheese goes no one was anywhere close to 132!  :grinyes:  But I have a wonderful parting gift for all! Click here.

Blessings and T/A Care!
