aluminum head question.

I want to change out the iron heads on my car and put the stealth heads on, but i have a domed piston on my 383. can the stealth heads be machined  to make it a open chamber head? I dont want to do the edelbrokes , because they dont have the factory look.

No, you can only make open to closed. I'm running domes with Stealths and have no issues. What pistons are you running? You need to check piston to valve clearance.

I haven't ever opened up the chambers on a stealth head, but I'm sure some material could be removed. It all
depends on how big the dome is. You might call 440 source and ask them how much material is in the chamber wall.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

I'm confused. Wouldn't taking metal from the aluminum head make a closed chamber an open chamber?
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

You may want to look at an MLS gasket like Cometic , the block needs a smooth finish but it will out live any other type of gasket

   I have custom diamond pistons, part # is BB100DOME. and my comp. is about 9.8-1.  with the iron heads. the cam i am running is a comp extreme solid, 520-521 - 244-252 at .050 with 1.6 roller rockers. so is it possible this will work?  what pistons do u have in your car, and cam?

Sure you could take material away to try to make them open, but could you imagine the cost involved .  I guess I should of rephrased my statement.

I'm running KB400 pistons,  Comp 275DEH 235/482, right around 9.9 to 1 comp. As Cryco said you can adjust with head gaskets. What gasket are you running now?

they are felpros, these might be the #s 260-1001?
