Exhaust bung
« on: June 08, 2013 - 10:08:16 AM »
I am about to weld in a bung for an A/F meter. Are you supposed to drill the hole a little smaller than the OD of the bung and weld it on or are you supposed to make the hole the same as the OD of the bung and have the bung flush with the inside surface of the exhaust pipe? Or... it doesn't matter? Do it either way?

I just made the hole a little larger than the O2 sensor and welded on the bung.

:iagree: I would not weld the bung into the pipe just on the outside so the sensor will fit into the pipe

I just finished installing bungs on my pipes for my AFR.  I drilled a 7/16" hole and centered the bung over it prior to welding.

Also.... in my destructions....errr INstructions  :icon16:  it said to mount it on top of the pipe so any condensation would drip off it and that would make the O2 sensor last longer. :2cents:

I had gotten a bung a few years ago that had a small step on it that fit into the pipe to help center it. Sorry can't think of the manufacturers name, but they are out there and was the same price as a regular bung. Summit has one.

I am the great Cornholio! I need TP for my bunghole!

Sorry guys.

I saw this threada few time and finally couldnt resist!

I was actually considering doing this - but am too afraid of ruining my pipes!  I have never welded exhaust pipe before...guess its time to practice!

I got mine mounted at the 2 o'clock position,  did you get yours mounted vertical? Floor was too close to get it any higher.
