Help Me Price my Challenger
« on: June 09, 2013 - 12:48:13 AM »
Hey Everyone,

I was hoping to enlist some of you Challenger nuts out there to help me figure out a good starting point for listing my Challenger for sale.  I wish I did but unfortuantely I don't know a whole lot about cars.  Always loved going to the classic car shows and everything but just never did get around to learning more about them...Anyway I have a 1973 Challenger 318 3 speed on the floor.  It's been sitting for quite some time since I had to move for work.  I just don't have the time I want to fix it up.  Let me tell you a bit about it...

There's about 79,000 original miles on it. It originally had single thruster exhaust that I had to replace and put in dual cherry bomb exhaust.  There's some bubbling of the paint by the wheel wells, at the bottom of the rear window on the corners there is some rust.  The dash board is cracked and would need to be replaced, the Driver seat will need the bottom reupholstered and the fuel tank or seal will need to be replaced and will need 4 new tires.  Other then that it's a great car.

What do you think I can realistically expect to get for it?  I know if I had the time to put maybe $5,000 into it I could sell probably in the $20,000 range...As is though what do you think?

I appreciate any help with this...Thank you!

Location is New Jersey
Was hoping to get around $8,000
I will upload pictures tomorrow when it's light out.

You're dreaming. With no pic's and you described it might be worth 7-8k with the repairs you mentioned.
Of course that's just my opinion. Maybe others will post with more optomistic numbers. Good Luck either way.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

bad discription, no pic and over optemestic seller = a soon to be disappointed seller.
Last time I bough a Challenger with that type of discription and no engine for $1800 and they guy was happy to sell it. When you get some pics and better info, we will get you a proper estimate.

 :iagree:  Need some pics.

The 3 speed manual is a not very common transmission found in these cars.  Can't really say if that's good or bad as it was the "standard base" transmission back in the day I believe and the auto or 4 speed was a more desirable option.  Would be fun if you're the gear shifter type, I would like that.

I'm not sure where the $5,000 would go into but even in pretty decent shape a '73  318 3 speed manual car would be very hard pressed to get $20k for it.  Maybe a really nice shape '72 340 Rallye car might get $20k, but it would need to be in decent shape.

Does not appear to be a Rallye optioned car I assume.  Look for A57 on the fender tag under the hood.  Any other fun options?  AC?   :clueless:

Again, would have to see some pics once you have them loaded then people can give a better opinion of it.
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.
