Brad, the USA has not been this polarized in my lifetime!  I've said it for awhile among friends ans some not-so .... you think the civil war happened yet?  I see it coming, so does our government.  There's lots of signs if your smart enough to look.

Not spur of the moment either but both spectrums politically lead by the nose ring. Follow the money! Who is directly benefiting? Who owns the stocks in the media? Money, Money , Money.  Greed is not good in this case. Adversity will make you rich!

Intelligent conversation about surveillance versus the Constitution

I agree.  There is a civil storm brewing, and just the fact that we are participating in this conversation probably sets some flags on a watch list somewhere.

I sure hope we don't have a civil war.  Our nation would not survive, I'm afraid.

I agree with much of what has been said. Where do we draw the line in exchange for our freedom/liberty?? I hold a high level clearence for the work I do and have signed papers allowing background checks. I really don't have anything to hide, so go ahead as far as my phone goes. My thing is the old saying' "Big brother is watching you", BUT who is watching Big brother??  :dunno: I have a big issue over who is doing it and how it is being done. (Such as what happened with Watergate)  There needs to be oversight and checks/balances, even double oversight to ensure whatever type of surveilance is being done, that #1, there is just cause. It's like illegal search & seizure. To search ones home, there needs to be a search warrant and it must be approved by a judge. The logistics of doing such mass surveilance of phone records is a huge undertaking & I don't have all the answers. But there must be accountabilty and oversight to start with!!

My opinion of surveillance... I personally have nothing to hide. If I show up on someone's surveillance tape, then so be it..no big deal...

If a surveillance tape helps find someone planting a bomb or killing someone or even just running a red light then I think it's worth it. :2cents:

Your statement reminds me of the current I.R.S. situation.  - My thing is the old saying' "Big brother is watching you", BUT who is watching Big brother??  :dunno: I have a big issue over who is doing it and how it is being done. -  reckless abandon with no oversight. This is the tip of the iceburg I'm afraid, anyone following Mr Holder???

Don't flame me, remember, I'm not American, but in reference to the OP's original statement/query, what does the US constitution say about surveillance?

:iagree: tp a point.I think there has to be some limits to it as in search warrants etc..Obviuoisly our government has a bunch of greedy crooks in the bunch so they need to watched more closely than they currently are. There is already a lot of abuse of power and greed in the system.
