SHAKER BASE QUESTION
« on: June 09, 2013 - 02:22:22 PM »
MODS  - sorry if this is in the wrong spot.........  :dunno:

As some of you know my HEMI was a crate motor. (01- but I dont think that would make a diff) To my knowlege there was never a shaker base made for this setup w a single 4BBL. Or am I wrong?  Anyway the original base that came w the car had holes cut in it to allow it to fit a holley DP. I dont know what it was originally from. But it was a real hack job. So I "made" (altered more like it) that base to properly fit over the carb. Using the ring and partial metal from a GM air cleaner. That being said it has always sat a bit high. I'd like tp put a spacer in for cooling the carb purposes. If the carb comes up the shaker has to come down. This is for Hood fitment issues.

So here's my question - do all the bases... 383 / 340 (but single 4BBL) all have the same offset in relation to shaker bubble height? I'm thinkng it be quicker easyier to adapt an exsisting base than start all over.  And maybe find something used @ carlisle???  :cooldancing:   Am I making sense ..... ?

I know the bases for 383/440 are different heights so I'd assume the shaker base is also different depending on which engine it was for?

:iagree:  I  would think you would need a base for a rb block/440. It's mounting flange sits higher in relation to the tub which
in turn makes it sit lower around the carb.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

thats exactly what I'm trying to figure out.   :grinyes:   I'm guessing the mounting to the adapter ring mounting places is the same on all??  :dunno:

the 340 / 440 may be the shortest dropping the shaker the most , one of the shaker suppliers may be able to helpo with the measurement .

440 would be the shortest. It still won't work for you.
If it fits now use a thinner heat shield not a spacer.
