Radiator overflow bottle on '73 cuda?
« on: June 10, 2013 - 07:29:20 PM »
I have a very late '73 model 340 cuda. would this have originally been fitted with a radiator overflow bottle or does the overflow just go the ground ?

thanks.

My '73 Challenger was designed just to puke coolant on the ground. Assume the 'cuda to be the same?

I think 74 was the only year with the overflow, I suppose late 73s might have had it as well.

74 only that I have seen.  You can keep the rad level down from the top an inch so you won't puke anything onto the ground.

If the car ever see's the track it's usually mandatory to have a catch can or overflow tank. Just FYI
If I cant fix it, it's broke

I have the original overflow bottle from my 74 challenger but no idea how it bolts up...has anyone got a picture? i'd love to put it back on. Right now i draned the rad a bit and just run a hose to the ground but I fear someone's dog deciding to take a drink of any puddles I leave.

I think there are 3 screws .... two on the battery side and one towards the radiator that hold it on.....

The bottle bolts to a bracket.  That bracket then bolts to the rad support.  I believe the bracket is repopped if you are missing it.

I can take a pic of mine for you if you still need it? I bought a radiator, shroud overflow bottle and bracket off a 74 and put it on my 72. Never could use the original rad and bought a Spectra replacement but the shroud doesn`t fit with this radiator now wish I could figure out why.  :clueless: Weird thing about the old radiator out of the 74 the #`s on it are for an A body.  :dunno:

Here is a pic of the overflow that I bought, probably doesn`t show what you want to see but its all I have right now.

Is there a way you can snap a pic of how that bracket bolts up? I was given a bracket with the car but of course it was in the trunk.

This looks like a fan shroud i'm looking for a smaller bracket that bolts onto the overflow bottle and where that bracket bolts to the radiator/ fan shoud mounting area.

I also need to get a fan shroud, got stuck in construction traffic yesterday.

The bracket uses the same bolt holes as the fan shroud.  The bolt at the top shows this.  As you can see there are 2 different pieces under the washer (the overflow bracket and the fan shroud), the same is true at the bottom.

It looks to me like the shroud bolts to the front of the rad....not to the rad support.  But anyway...Jamie's pictures show the overflow bracket mounted to the rad support.  It uses the two DS rad to rad support mounting locations.
