power steering pump color / sheen question?
« on: June 12, 2013 - 05:48:32 PM »
What would the correct sheen of black be for a 70 E body power steering pump, Saginaw unit?  My guess would either be satin or gloss black?  Also, would the brackets be on it prior to it getting painted as an assembly or brackets painted, pump painted individually then assembled?

I came across a NOS pump set on ebay and it appeared that the pump was a gloss or 60% gloss black.  Certainly wasn't dull by any means.  Also someone on the charger board had posted a pic of an NOS p/s cooler which was a shiny black.  Again, don't know what gloss level.

Well in painting certain components on NIKKI I've used high and low depending on the piece, to closer match original color. There is a difference.  :grinyes:

Oh, I completely agree that there was different sheens / gloss levels for different parts inside the engine compartment.  Mainly because of everything being supplied by different vendors and them using their own version of the paint.  Cars that have everything painted in the engine compartment the same sheen of black is totally incorrect from a OE or factory appearance stand point.  Don't forget too that some things will also have drip runs due to them being dipped vs. spray painted.   :2thumbs:
