    Would you have rallye or standard gauges?

    When I bought my 71 Chally, the previous owner had put in rallye gauges but after looking at the build sheet, it was built with standard gauges. The car is triple black with a 440 so it kinda on the "sporty" side.I can't decide what to put in there? What would you do?

    How original do you want the car to be???  I have 2 with standard, would like to set up the 73 with rally (the car I'm trying to copy had em)

    Personally, I'd put in the rallye gauges. I just think that they add a really neat look to the car. But like RUSTY Cuda says, it really depends on how original you want the car to be.

    If all the Rallye gauges work, I'd stick with that.  You won't be happy with standard gauge look after having the Rallyes.

    Nothing says "Muscle Car" like a 150mph speedo and factory tach!

    Someone put a set of 1970 Rallye guages in my 1974 Challenger, not gonna take an 8 grand tach out.  :nono:

    I did get a set of standard guages in case the complete resto bug bites.

    I prefer the rallye look too. Anyone drive Lexus products? They know how to do instrument panels. The guage faces are translucent and are back lit when you turn the key on. The needles are illuminated by a fine string of tiny LED's. Very slick. I would love to be able to retrofit that feature on a rallye dash. I wouldnt want to venture too far from the rallye dash design but light up needles would be slick. Here is a picture of the SC400 dash:

    I agree with you Mike.   I also like the look of the modern dash.    Sometimes I want all the modern updates and technologies in my Cuda', but if I could do this, it would no longer be a Cuda'.    An e-body mopar is an outstanding muscle car and sometimes I just have to take pride in saying "Hey, It's a muscle car.   What do you expect."  ....Arrrrr, Arrrrrr, Arrrrrr!

    I like the looks of the rallye gauges but whoever put them in put in a 72 set. It has the 7g tach, and the seat belt light on the right side. I would like to put in a 71 dash but way to expensive!

    Messy? I don't know if I would call it that; it may be "busy" or too expensive for some folks taste. This is the technology they are putting in $70k+ luxury cars and most people find it appealing. I posted the picture to illustrate how the LED needles looked. 

    I too am a fan of the simple and elegant rallye dash  :thumbs:

    Sorry mate, messy wasn't the word, busy as you pointed out. 70K, I know there are instrument panels out there that make this one look 1920's but then I saw you posted it only for the example of LED needles.  ;)

      There is nothing wrong with those gauges you posted. I'd gladly have them in any modern day car. I just think the simple Rally gauges do it for 70-74 Mopars. Keep in mind, they weren't so simple back then. To each his own, I mean no harm here. Other's have gone with after-market gauges that look good, it's just not what I would want.

    I find the rallye cluster quite boring with the wood grain and the big ole clock that never works

    I think that is one area that GM got us on back in the seventys, the Pontiac GTOs and Trans Ams
    gauges were the coolest of that era

    I'm going with the standard dash in my cars 'cause I like 'em
    The best Mopar rallye gauges were in B-bodies,,,, '71 and up

    Just my opinion  .02
