Steering shaft fix
« on: June 15, 2013 - 09:43:27 AM »
Well,  in the process of tearing down my steering column,  I realized the plastic retainer "clips" on the collapsible shaft are sheared.  I've researched on how to repair it and I came across a fix that I'm considering.  But was wondering if anyone else has tried this,  or has any other recommendations?
The fix I am thinking about is to drill 2 small holes where they injected the plastic, and install light weight smooth headed screws.  Just enough to hold,  but small enough to still shear in the case of an accident.

Super glue or a light weight epoxy would probably shear easier than screws :dunno:

Here's what someone suggested over on Moparts:

Well,  I went ahead and drilled and tapped it.  Put some small brass screws in,  but I like the sound of aluminum screws like suggested,  so I'm gonna see if I can find some.  Thanks!
