An intake can hurt or help power , it depends on the the design of the intake & the components matched to the intake powerband , using a stock cam with a tunnel ram or conversly using a race roller cam with a 4500-9000 rpm powerband with the stock dual plane 2 bbl intake is not going to make you happy LOL .
It all comes down the having the cam, intake, carb head flow , converter etc all working the best at the same RPM
