Car wax, vinal top protectant.....
« on: June 19, 2013 - 09:20:21 PM »
OK I'm close to getting my Cuda fired up and out of the garage. I will be cleaning it and detailing it.
Its been along time since I've done any of this so I figure might as well ask. What do you all use to clean your mopars ?

What wax do you use? Those of you with vinal tops how do you protect them. Best polish for chrome ect act.

For my vinyl top I use Meguiar's
Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner / Conditioner
16oz
Product number: M5716 | SKU: 070382157166
Cleans, revitalizes, and protects vinyl and rubber surfaces in one easy step. Screens out damaging UV rays that can dry out or crack the surface.

My dad used Armor All for years on his vinyl top.  It was still in perfect shape when it was removed after 30 years.  It actually came off in one piece and was still pliable. I like Formula 2001 protectant.  It smells a lot nicer then Armor All and doesn't give me a headache.

If it hasn't been done in a long time, I would wash with Dawn dish washing soap. This should remove all traces of dirt grime and wax. I would then use TR3 Resin Glaze. I buy it at Pep Boys for around $6. I is a liquid that deep cleans very much like a polishing compound. it leaves a really smooth surface. I have since used IBIZ wax. They sell a kit with a cleaner that is 90%cleaner, and 10% wax for quick cleaning, and a wax that is 90% wax and 10 % cleaner. It leaves a really nice protective coat and shine. It is easy to apply and remove, even if you do it in sunlight. Hope this helps.

I don't wash it.  I just use Meguiar's Quick Detailer when it needs to be cleaned.

You

I was told to never use dish soap as it has stripping agents in it and can harm paint. Maybe dawn is different as it is used to clean dirty oil animal's after a spill. I still would use something made for cars

i used mother's back to black for the vinyl top on my '74. one day i got caught in the rain and it ran down the paint and windows leaving
black streaks everywhere. and let me tell you , it was a F-P-I-T-A to clean off! it took me days!  :pullinghair: i had to clean the windows with
lacquer thinner and then windex 3 times

my cars do go out in the rain (not it i can help it though). has anyone had something like this happen? has any of the products that
everyone has mentioned here do what happened to me?

Top: Vinylex by luxol...leaps and bounds ahead of the meguiars I used to use

Car wash: any car wash don't spend too much money on it they are all basically the same

Wax: I use a meguiars gold class wax.

for small jobs: I use meguiars quick detailer. I think it's good value for money and after I am done walking around the car show I can just grab a microfiber and clean areas that need attention between talking with the people who ask me questions about the car. I also use this under the hood to keep the air cleaner/ engine block/ inner hood area clean between major yearly scrub downs.
