rear eand rebuild
« on: June 26, 2013 - 01:51:32 PM »
he guys,

I have a 73 Cuda with a howling rear.  I know it has a 3:55 ratio because I got it from a bone yard about 20 years ago.  I just slaped it in when I was a kid, but now I would like the gears to mesh better and run quieter.  The question I have is  Do most Trans shops do this kind of rebuild work.  I just don't know where to start looking.  I want a turn key project on this one.  Seems sort of complicated when looking in the book at rebuilding myself. :dunno:

Thanks.
John

Any driveline shop can handle it , you will probabaly need a new set of gears & might as well use new brgs too

Thanks for the reply.  I have the Green bearings on the axles.  I started with that a while back thinking it was bearing noise.  what would I expect to have to pay to have that center section gone through?

once the gears have made noise for a while they will not go quiet if they are reset .
So new gears & brg kit would be $5-600 in parts & labor
