I finally got to work on the barracuda today. I have been beating my head against the wall on where to start working on her. I have done alot of alittle here and there. I have finally decided to fix the major sheet metal patches. Then I will start in the front and work my way back. I will be ordering my Firewall next week. So my plan is as I get to the fire wall or quarter panel that needs to be replaced I will do that then.

So tonight I found some oldies but goodies photos. The first set is where I am at with the car.

Got a question on the third pic. What is this area used for. Is it some kind of access whole for the motor. Hate to say I didn't pay them much attention when i was removing the motor. An my other question is what are ya'll doing with them. Are ya'll replacing them with some sort of oem style or just welding a piece in.

That pic that you're asking if people just fill, is the access hole for the clutch Z bar and I believe there's also a rubber cover that goes on as well. The factory put them there for a reason, so give it some consideration before you weld 'em up.
I bought both pieces of the cowl/firewall and we bonded/spot welded them together before we installed them, however, if you're not replacing the frt floor, I believe I'd install the lower, to said floor and the upper once I had the lower mocked up and fitted. I welded 3/4' angle iron across the w/s plrs and down to the rockers on each side and them triangulated them with another piece and it worked very nicely. Good luck

My car is an automatic so im not worried about the clutch zbar. I have both rubber covers, but do yall think it would strengthen that area with a piece of metal patched in. I am having my buddy who owns a body shop do the firewall. The firewall scares me since it is such a structural piece.

That hole is for access to the upper control arm bolts with the offset washers for wheel alignment. Weld em up your alignment guy will hate you. :hyper: There is one on the front also.  Love the color of the car.

Thanks Swede-Cuda. I love this color. I have yet to come across another Plymouth with it.

So I was going to replace a spot under the rear passenger seat. And it did not go as plan. So when I cut the floor board out it was a bad sight. The passenger frame rail is completely rusted through in two places. So back to square one.

So with the frame, short of putting a hole new one in. Do you guys have any ideas or suggestions.
I also plan on putting in subframe connectors. Dont know if i want to buy them or make them.

I don't know where to start. Im 24 and have been in love with barracudas for years. I finally bought one about a year ago. I found a 1974 barracuda a couple of cities over. I went down there to look at it cause how good could it actually be for 1700 bucks. Well come to find out it was a complete car. I couldn't believe i,t so I loaded it up before the guy could change his mind. I brought the car to my buddy's house, cause I had no where to put it. As soon as we unloaded my new TOY we poured gas down the carb and threw a battery in it. and it cranked right up and i drove it around the yard. But being the guy I am I was ready to tear into it. I stripped the car down to just a roller in one weekend. I sadly didn't get to work on it for about 6 months due to new job and having to get married. I also realized that its hard to work on it at someone else house. So I built me a shop nothing special just a roof over my head. So since yall are up to date. I finally brought my car home and will start pounding it out has much as possible. I don't have many earlier pics since my computer crashed. First pic is of my new shop and the second is me bringing my baby home.
I love the line "HAVING TO GET MARRIED" You really are a car guy. Thanks for the laugh and good luck with the car.

Do yourself a favour and DON'T bubble gum patch it like the last butcher did. You're into this thing now and to get your money's worth, I'd get the req'd panels from an AMD dealer- of which there's at least 2 of them on this site; and fix it right. I'm not talking some chalk mark perfect restoration, but a real, driveable safely, repair. If either your or your buddy's welding skills are up to it, you can section every panel, including the frame rails, on the car if you don't want to replace them. There are used parts out there and I bought and installed a frt frame rail myself, just make sure it's good, solid stuff up front. Be careful how you support the car if you get into rail replacement, since it'll sag and once you weld the new stuff in, it's a real beotch to change anything. Take your time and you'll be happier when you're done. Good luck

Yea Im not for botch work. I am planning on running 2x4 square tubing from the rear frame rail to the front cross member. I plan on using the 2x4 all the way back to where the the rear frame rail turns up to make the wheel wells. I have done plenty of patches like this when I was in the rockcrawling world.
I am pretty good with welding, I used to be certified. I will say it has been a long time since I have welded and will be practicing till the day it comes to do the patching.

Like I said I try not to do crap work but I have to work with the funds that I have. I have decided on doing a pro touring/ daily driver/ stock. I dont know what you call that but have the idea in my head and it looks good.

Here is the pictures of the frame rail under the passenger rear seat.

So I have been beating my head against the wall on what to do with my rotted frame. I got my idea from BECK on here and his build. Although I am changing his idea up. I decided to cut some of the frame out. It has taken me about a week of cutting and fitting and I feel like I got it as close as I can.
So what I did was cut out the part of the frame that came down and turned under the rear seat and connected to the tub. Then I came straight back from the transmission cross member and connected my subframe to the old frame.

If yall have any comments concerns or questions let me know.
