Chipmunk..yes Chipmunk problem????

My keen eyed wife spyed a chipmunk running INTO my garage, ballsy little bugger, we were all fairly close by.

Seems he buroughed into a small hole in the corner of the pad of garage.  I have no idea how long he has been in there.

Anyone ever dealt with a chipmunk in the gargae...can they do the same damage as a mouse etc.

I am also worried about how far and much he has buroughed under the slab and if he has caused any issues.

they are not near as bad as mice or rats.
I have a few on my property in the city.
I can not say that I have ever seen any damage to my cars caused by the chip munks.
Of course, left alone for years anything causes problems.

I kind of like them.  The cat chases them too. so usually they are fine.

If you want, let him come out of the hole, and block it up. 
Often and most times they do not come back to the same spot if you use preventative measures.

I'm curious to know if anyone else has had actual problems with them.

I use to think they were cute myself. Changed my opinion of them when I discovered that their extensive tunneling can be destructive. Tunneled all through my front flower bed heaping up the mulch around their multiple entry and exit holes. Then they tunneled under my brick paver pathway to the front door causing part of it to sink several inches when their tunnels collapsed. After that I decided that their "cuteness" wasn't going to keep me from evicting them. Got a live trap with a little bit of peanut butter and granola bar as bait which they found to be irresistable. They had a little community going on under my pathway as I caught a total of five of them. I thought about giving them to my Doberman as "chew toys" (I was about having to repair my pathway) but decided to relocated them all to a park about a mile from my house instead.

Never had a chipmunk issue, but we do have a vole issue. there about the same size and eat grubs.... so you get a crap load of golfball or a bit bigger sized holes all over the place. they will dig down 3 inches to get dinner!

Tons of chipmunks around here.  The way we take care of them is to get a 5 gallon pail, fill it half full, drop some sunflower seeds on top of the water, and then use a board for the chipmunks to walk to the top of the pail.  They just jump in for the seeds, and cannot get out.  Dump the pail in the back yard, and by the next morning, no evidence is there.  Do this until the entire colony is gone, and some other critter will be happy about the free dinner.  It seems cruel, but those little guys will wreck your stuff, not to mention when there is a large colony near, they are super noisy in the morning.  Grrrrrrr. Good luck.

Rat traps and peanut butter usually take care of the situation. I got three this year. Now to patch that little hole in the wall.....

My new cat killed 3 in the last week.
Looks like I won't have any more chip munks myself.

Works excellent for mice.  Just smear peanut butter on the can.  Add antifreeze in the winter and you have a year-round trap.
