My first `70 road runner came red with black bench seat, four speed and air grabber-wish I never had to sell that one.  :crying:
Here`s one like it -

See. They look fine with the floor shift. Wasn't the runner in joe dirt bench. But it had a column shift...boo

My car has the bench seat with the bucket backs and the arm rest. I like the arm rest and it's nice to have my wife sit next to me while cruising. It's where she sat when we were dating 20yr ago. Pretty interesting that you don't see them much.

My understanding was that the seats only came in either blue or black originally. Mine was blue.

They came only in black, blue or green, no other colors were available.

:iagree: Hey i like that, i am doing the same thing in my Barracuda vert. What color combo are you doing on your 71 ?

Bench seats were never available in E body convertibles.  I do not know what the reason(s) were for this, they would be great in one, I think, but for some reason, Chrysler would not let you order one in a rag top.

Not for me. I have always thought cars that sit low looked better with buckets and a floor shifter.  I like them in B bodies with the 4 speed.

I like bench seats in A and B-bodies coupled with a four-speed.

However, it sux if the driver has short legs so now the passenger has to suffer with being cramped b/c of the seat being moved for both so far forward.

Would rather have buckets with a buddy seat.  Too bad they never came in e-bodies.

My Challenger with a stickshift mod will have NO CONSOLE, so if someone (female of course) did want to sit next to me, they could with a small pillow.   :clapping:

Howdy, plinking around and found this topic, so digging up a dead thread to provide some additional thoughts. Agree with the first reply that the slap stick is just a cool gimmick. Haven't driven an e-body in quite some time, but a bench seat with a Tuff wheel is hard to beat. With the arm rest down it provides some lateral stability the bucket seats do not. Is that why you often see them in AAR's or was the factory just pushing them out the door? Also a lot easier to sleep in the car(haven't had to do that since Car Craft Street Machine Nationals back in the 80's). Since I may have to sell the house to afford fixing mine, it is a consideration. While they were not factory available in convertibles, they are certainly more cozy if you take your kid(s) along. Sometimes your best girl sits between you and your wife. They were also not available in Gran Coupes, Legendary can fix that for a custom fee. I also prefer them when you see abused bucket seats cracking the floorboards and bowing back and toward the center.

My first 70 barracuda had the bench seat (black vinyl).  The 70 cuda I have now has the same black vinyl bench seats.  The plus for bench seats was your date could sit next to you while cruising around and at the drive in.

Absolutely never did or will work for me in a E body car!  Just no cool factor as it looks like parents or grandparents car.

Even thou it is double non-factory, I am putting one in my Gran Coupe convertible(which is nearly as stupid of a name as the 1966 Impala Sport Sedan hardtop). 70cudafan or any with a factory Barracuda bench seat, what does the tire size decal say on the door frame? Does it list the car as six passenger?
