What's your opinions on bench seats?
« on: July 04, 2013 - 03:30:55 AM »
Hey guys.
I am always looking at Ebodys on Ebay. I hardly see an Ebody with a bench seat. But when I do, it interests me. What is your guys opinions on them? Love them hate them? Do they make the car more valuable? Was it a more expensive option at the time? What are the pros/cons of them? I searched the forum but only found links to the for sale or want ads.

Personal tastes, but for me, if it's an Automatic, make it a bench seat. I love the room and openness. It's relaxing.

Floor shift auto's are crap. What's the point? If I buy a vehicle with an automatic transmission, I'd prefer a column shifter with a bench seat. More room, and it's not like a auto floor shift is actually useful for anything? Matter of fact, unless I'm in some big horsepower whiz-banger that a need to shift quick  with a manual (racing etc, or just wanting to drive rather enthusiastically), I even prefer manual transmissions on the column with bench seats.

As stupid as it may sound, they create a relaxing driving experience. Chuck it in gear, grab the wheel, stretch out and cruise. Also gives you the opportunity to snuggle with a lady friend at the drive-ins; or any ohter place that you may park  :2thumbs:

The ebody bench seats are cool  :cooldancing: they use the bucket seat top part and a bench bottom and I think a  fold down arm rest, most people swapped em out for buckets back in the day, I think in the right car it could be cool.

I have often thought I would like one just  because they are so unique.

I love seeing them because they are different-everyone has buckets. I agree with Russ that it would work well in a nice cruiser but if you're into performance you need a floor shift.

At one of the local cruise in places I met a guy with a green 71 barracuda with a green interior.  An original 318 / AT on the colum with a bench seat. It has the high backs with a fold down arm rest between the seats.  It now has a 340 / 5 speed with OD and a pistol grip shifter ----but still kept the bench seat.  I really like the bench seat.  Like every one said---it's different.  The only one I have seen around here.

I like em.  I had one in my fk5 70 barracuda.
It was not the bucket seat back one though.
I believe there are three options for the bench.
One with the bucket back, fold down armrest.
One without bucket  backs with arm rest.
And one with no armrest, no bucket backs, just straight seat.

I think their cool.  You can have your girl sit right next to you when you cruise.

Looks like c51 is split bench 50/50.
And c65 air foam bench seat.

Can't find the third seat. might not be one.
Or I'm thinking a body maybe
